HONQRING
SHAYNE GRAHAM
WHEREAS, Shayne Graham has been selected as recipient for outstanding athletic achievement
as one of America's finest college and high school place-kickers dividing eight seasons at
Virginia Tech and Pulaski County High School; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Graham in his early years, developed his athletic skills in the recreation
programs of Riverlawn, Dublin and the Town of Pulaski; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Graham was a four year starter asplace-kicker for Coach Joel Hicks at Pulaski
County High School, helping his team to a 43-10 record, four District Titles, twa Regional Titles
and a State Championship in 1992; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Graham was named to many high school All-American Teams following his
Senior season including Parade, Superprep and Bluechip Publications and athree-time All State
selection and setting National High School record for most kicking poi><rts (279); and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Graham received All-American and All-Big East honors at Virginia Tech,
breaking Hokies and Conference Cazeer and single season scoring records for a kicker and all
• other positions; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Graham helped lead Virginia Tech to an undefeated 1999 regular season and
number two National ranking and four straight Bowl appearances; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Graham has displayed outstanding poise and character making him one of the
most successful sports figures ever from Pulaski County.
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia,
sitting in regular session on February 15, 2000, that Town Council should and hereby does
commend Mr. Graham on these outstanding athletic achievemerrts.
This resolution is effective upon adoption and is adopted by duly recorded vote of the Town
Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia on this 15~` day of February, 2000 as follows:
