Regarding Future U. S. Post Office Needs
in the Town of Pulaski
WHEREAS, the town of Pulaski, Virginia is an incorporated community of 9,985 persons; and,
WHEREAS, the town of Pulaski is the seat of Pulaski County government including its Courthouse,
administrative offices, and associated governmental and private professional offices; and,
WHEREAS, governmental offices, private residences, local industry, and other commercial activities
depend on the U.S. Post Office for vital services; and,
WHEREAS, the building that houses the Post Office is an important architectural and historically
significant feature of the Town of Pulaski; and,
WHEREAS, the town of Pulaski supports suitable preservation of the structure regardless of whomever
occupies the building; and,
WHEREAS, current practices within the United States Postal Service include construction techniques
that promote adequate parking for customer use, the "Postal Store" concept wherein customers have
increased access to purchase postal products; and,
WHEREAS, it has been suggested that the Town undertake a dialog and review with appropriate postal
officials whether the existing facility, or a new one at an alternate location, will best meet the needs of
the Town of Pulaski for the future or the next twenty years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia,
sitting in regular session on February 6, 2001, request the Town Manager to begin a dialog with postal
officials regarding facility needs.
This Resolution is effective upon adoption and is adopted by recorded vote of the Town Council of the
Town of Pulaski, Virginia, on this 6`~ day of February, 2001 as follows:
