HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-39RESOLUTION 2005-39 FAIR HOUSING RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Town of Pulaski is committed to affirmatively furthering fair housing as part of its Community Development Block Grant program; and WHEREAS, the Virginia Fair Housing Law prohibits discrimination in housing because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin elderliness, familial status, or handicap; and WHEREAS, Virginia's Fair Housing Law prohibits certain types of practices related to renting an apartment, buying a house or obtaining a mortgage or homeowner's insurance; and WHEREAS, Some of these practices include steering home seekers to specific neighborhoods; attempting to blockbust a neighborhood due to an alleged influx of "certain" people; falsely denying housing is available for sale or rent; refusal to sell, rent, negotiate for or finance housing; setting different terms for sale, rental or financing of housing; denying participation in a multiple listing service; and intimidation or interference in the buying or renting of housing. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF PULASKI, VIRGINIA, that; if a resident of the Town of Pulaski believes he or she has • been the victim of housing discrimination, the Town hereby urges that individual to exercise his/her legal right to an investigation of the matter by contacting the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation's Fair Housing Office and filing a housing complaint. This Resolution is effective upon adoption and is hereby adopted this 1St day of November, 2005 by recorded vote of the Town Council as follows: Jeffrey S.
