Authorizing Two Burials
in a Single Lot in Oakwood and
Pinehurst Cemeteries
WHEREAS, the Town of Pulaski is the owner of Oakwood and Pinehurst Cemeteries,
and has promulgated ordinances, rules and regulations for the operations thereof; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Pulaski has in the past sold the right of burial to numerous
lots; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Pulaski has been requested to amend its regulations to reflect
the fact that up to two individual family members may be buried in the same burial lot;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski,
Virginia, sitting in Regular Session on September 19, 1995, that:
The Town Council is hereby approving the burial of two family members in the same
burial space on the following terms and conditions:
1. Separate caskets must be used for each decedent.
• 2.. Construction and installation of all vaults, and the digging of all graves and all
burials shall be in compliance with the requirements of the Virginia Board of Health,
Virginia Law and other ordinances and regulations of the Town.
3. The Town reserves the right to require the replacement of existing vaults with larger
vaults or the lower of existing vaults so that the depth of the soil over the top most vault
will meet the requirements of the Town.
4. If the opening of an existing grave to allow a second burial requires the disinterment
of human remains, the Town's procedures and the procedures of state law as to
disinterment will be followed.
This resolution is effective upon adoption and is adopted by recorded vote of the Town
Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia, on this 19th day of September, 1995 as
follows:
