HomeMy WebLinkAbout98-07ORDINANCE 98-7 i Amending the Position Classification Plan to include the position of Assistant Chief Waterworks Operator Adopted: April 14, 1998 Effective: April 14, 1998 503 ORDINANCE 98-7 • AMENDING THE POSITION CLASSIFICATION PLAN TO INCLUDE THE POSITION OF ASSISTANT CHIEF WATERWORKS OPERATOR BE IT ORDAINED, by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia, sitting in special session on April 14, 1998, that: WHEREAS, the Position Classification Plan is the official system or approved system of grouping position into appropriate classes; and WHEREAS, the Town Manager and Department Heads are responsible for assessing the human resources needs of the town's departments; and WHEREAS, the Town Manager and Town Engineer recommended to Town Council that the position of Assistant Chief Waterworks Operator be created to oversee the second shift and to assist the Chief Operator with paperwork and administrative duties; and WHEREAS, after applying the position classification rating criteria to this position, it was determined to be a Grade 8 with a salary range of $21,239 to $31,859. The rating criteria for the Assistant Chief Waterworks Operator is also attached. WHEREAS, Section 2.7 of the Personnel Policies and Procedures manual requires that Town Council approve the addition of a new position by amending the Position Classification Plan; and WHEREAS, Town Council reviewed the need for this position during its budget deliberations and concurred with staff's recommendation and sufficient funds have been budgeted for FY 1997-98. NOW THEREFORE, the Classification Plan (Attachment A -dated May 23, 1996) is hereby amended to include the position of Assistant Chief Waterworks Operator, Grade 8. This ordinance is effective as of April 14, 1998 and is adopted this 14th day of April, 1998. This includes, but is not limited to, the operation and troubleshooting of all water treatment equipment, determining and adjusting water chemical levels, sampling and testing water conditions, and the supervision of all Water Treatment Operators as directed by the Chief Operator. Occasional overtime ~ ~. O work is required. Work is conducted inside and outside the three buildings on the plant grounds. • Adequate lighting is provided in each of the temperature controlled buildings: There is a constant hum of machinery, which is louder in certain areas than others. Some work is performed around potentially dangerous chemicals and electrical equipment. Much of the time is spent standing, walking, watching machinery and logging information. Occasional lifting of 50 lb. chemical bags is performed. The Assistant Chief Operator provides supervision for all plant employees, primarily second shift, under the direction of the Chief Operator. Work Performance The Assistant Chief Operator is evaluated annually by the Chief Waterworks Operator using a standard Town of Pulaski evaluation form.
