Countil Minutes September 9, 1957, 4 p. m.
Minutes of a special meeting of the Town Council of the
Town of Pulaski, Virginia, held on the 9th day of September, 1957,
at ~ p. m.
There were present: C. V. Jackson, presiding.
Councilmen: W. A. Larson, ~T. H. Wysor, J.R. Martin,
F. L. Carrico, ~?. S. Cummings, I. R. Carper
Pbsent: Councilman ~r1. F. White.
Also present: Town Manager: T. B. Noland
Clerk Gladys R. Dalton
Town Attorney: Garnett S. Moore
Mayor Jackson called the meeting to order and stated the
primary purpose of this called meeting was to consider a request
of Coleman Furniture Company to place a concrete structure under
Madison Avenue, through which structure the company would place
steam lines to connect their plants. This matter was discussed
by Council, and on motion of '~'. H. Wysor, seconded by I. R.
Carper, it was unanimously
RESOLVED, that Council grant the request of the Coleman
Furniture Company to place a concrete structure under Madison

before Council for fina_1 approval.
Mayor Jackson read a letter from J. B. Shumate, President
of the Coleman Furniture Corporation, in which Mr. Shumate ex-
pressed his appreciation of the fine cooperation in calling a
special meeting of council to act upon their request.
Town Manager Noland read a proposed resolution whereby
the New River Valley Airport Commission be authorized and em-

OF PULASKI IN NEGOTIATIONS FOR TIC ACQUISITION OF REAL
PROPERTY TO BE USED FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE NEW
RIVER VALLEY AIRPORT

WHEREAS, the Town of Pulaski became a member of the 1Vew
River Valley Airport Commission by resolution duly adopted by this
council on the 7th day of January, 1957;
WHEREAS, it is necessary and proper that negotiations be
entered into with the owners of real property proposed to be
acquired for purposes of the Commission by cor~demr~a.tion, by

purchase or otherk~ise;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Council of the Town.

(1) The New River Valley Airport Conmiission be, and the
same hereby is, expressly authorized and empowered to act as the;
agent of the Town of Pulaski in sry ar~d all negotiations with the!
owners of land or interests therein, any part of which is proposed to be
acquired for the purposes of the establishment of the 1V'ew River V'~lley
Airport; (2) That the Commission be, and it hereby is, further
2ut,horized and empowered to make such offers for compensation as
in its discretion it may deem reasannble, for such lands or
interests therein and to such persons as it may deem necessary
and proper for the accuisi.tion of the real property for the estal~.-sh-
