Hall, Reporter for t&e Southwest Times MINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting of July 3rd and special meeting of July 10, 1956, were read and approved. The meeting was declared to be a public hearing at this time PUBLIC HEARING ON BUDGET for persons desiring to appear for or against the proposed budget for the year beginning Ju],y 1, 1956 and ending June.~~6, 1957, said public hearing having been duly advertised in the local newspaper. There having appeared no persons to be heard for or against the proposed budget, on motion duly made by W. F. White, seconded by I. R. Carper, with recorded vote of 7 - 0 as follows: J. R. Martin - aye W. M. Farmer - aye W. A. Larson - aye W. F. White - aye M. E. Lester - aye I. R. Carper - aye C. T. Brookman - aye 0. 0. Crowell - aye BE IT ORDAINED THAT TO provide for the current expenses and BUDGET APPROVID other expenditures of the Town of Pulaski for the fiscal year ending June 3Q, 195, the following appropriations are hereby authorized for the various funds. See page 256-A, etc. Dr. W. W.1,1~Alton appeared before Council voicing ob3ection CHEMICAL STORAGE BUILDING in behalf of Pulaski Hospital to the placing of the chemical storage building at the proposed location adjacent-to-the Pifer P].axt. Haller and Gilmer stated they were in attendance only to hear the discussion of fluoridation. Messrs. Shumate of Coleman Furniture Corporation neat appeared before Council. They stated that their,campar~- xas planning an COLEMAN FURNITURE expansion of its facilities and that such a pro3ect would require CORPORATION REQUEST TO the use of a portion of Third Street, extended, Est of Madison PURCHASE PORTION OF Avenue. It was their request that the Town sell to `the~~oleman THIRD STREET, EXTENDED Furniture Corporation a strip of the right of way 25 feet wide and 345.5 feet long. Mayor Jackson referred this matter to the Street Committee and;. advised the Messrs. Shumate that a special meeting wootld be cal],dd at the end of the week to study the situation. ~, On motion of W. M. Farmer, seconded by I. R. Carper, it was unanimously TAX LEVY RESOLVED, that the present levy on Town taxes of $1.60 per $10 1956-5? remain the same for the fiscal year 156-57. On motion of I. R. Carper, seconded by W. M. Farmer, it was unanimously RESOLVED, that the sanitary landfill on Dora Highway'E~e put SANITARY LAND FILL into operation August 1, 1956. On motion duly made by W. F. ~ihite, seconded by W. A. Larson it was unanimously TOWN ATTORNEY RESOLVED, that the Town Attorney is hereby authorized to TO PETITION COURT FOR petition the Circuit Court of Pulaski County for right 'of way ~ RIGHT OF WAY ~' FOR SEWER for sewer line through property maned by Mr. George Jphnston near LINE-GEORGE JOHNSTON Tract Fork of Peak Creek. The Town Manager advised Crntncil that Mr. William M. Gallimor~r EAST MAIN STREET BRIDGE was preparing plans for the reconstruction of the East Main Street t, bridge. The matter of fluoridation was briefly discussed by the Counci~~ if The Town Manager stated that the approximate expenditure by the Town' for the first year would be $9,054.00 and that the operating expense FLUORIDATION ~! for one year would be approximately $770.00. ~` It was the consensus of Council that a special meting bid "'Held SPECIAL Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m., to view the site for the proposed MEETING chemical building; the East Third Street bridge and Third Street, $` ~. CORPORATION The Town Manager was asked to visit Pulaski Veneer and Furniture Corporation and advise them of the situation and request tTat they cease burning their trash. The Town Manager reported that Mr. E. H. Ruehl, Consulting ANNEXATION Engiaeer~.on Annexation would be in Pulaski on July 1$ ancT Iq for a conference with Mr. Mathews. The Town Manager further reported that the Planning~C~ammission SUBDIVISION had met Monday night, Ju]y 16, and adopted the Subdivision'Ordinance ORDINANCE in its revised form, On motion of J. R. Martin, seconded by 0. 0. Crow®11, it was unanimously RESOLVED, that the Town Council does hereby approve the Subdivision Ordinance as revised. A letter from Bushong Motor Corporation protesting the BUSHONG MOTOR charges made by the Town for the construction of a sidewalk in CORPORATION Yront of their property on First Street, N.W. was read by the Town Manager. The matter was continued to t he next regular meeting. On motion of W. M. Farmer, seconded by J. R. Martin, it ~a'as unanimously SEA EXPLORER RESOLVED, that permission is granted to the Sea Explorer SCOUTS Scouts to paint house.numbers on curbs throughout the Town, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVID, that the Town will not be liable. for any accidents which may occur as a result,~of the project. _ On motion of W. F. White, seconded lby W. A. Larson, it was BLOOD TESTS unanimously AUTHORIZED FOR PERSONS RESOLVID, that arrangements be made with Pulaski Hospital ARRESTED FOR DRUNKENNESS to provide for drunkenness tests as outlined by the Town Attorney. Mayor Jackson advised Council of a series of programs by WRAD Broadcasting Coeipany whereby Southwestern Virginia cantmxnities will be honored. He stated that he had received a letter from the station inquiring as to what month would best suit Pulaski. It was the sense of Council that the letter be acknowledged advising that October is selected as the month for Pulaski to be honored. On motion of C. T. Brookman, seconded by W. F.
