Sad~er. of the regular meeting held June 2, 1953were read and approved. ~ U, PUBLIC The meeting was declared to be a public hearing at t~is HEARING ~~ PROPOSED time for persons desiring to appear for or against the proposed BUD CST TOI~i MAMA GER SALARY -Raised BUDGET 53-54 budget for the ye ar beginning July 1, 1953 and ending June 30, ; 1954, said public hearing having been duly advertised in the focal newspaper. Councilman ~~hite stated it was his opinion that the .,: Council should give further consideration to the matter of the salary of the Town Manager, reflecting upon the many varied duties w~.ich his office had assumed that were not usually assigned to said ~ffice~ A brief discussion followed. On motion duly made by X10. F. white, seconded by J.R.~artin~ it was unanimously "` RESOLVED, that the salary of the Town., Manager be se~ at Six-Thousand Dollars 06, 000.00) per year for the period begin~f.ng July 1, 1953 and ending June 30, 1954, and that the General Find Budget for said fiscal year be so adjusted to provide for the '. increase. Hauer appeared as a local merchant REQUEST F+ExR MILLI©N to request Council's reconsideration of providing free MERC~iANT parking on July 16-17-18th, 1953 for the "million dollar SALE sale"propos ed by local merchants through the Merchants' Council of the Chamber of Commerce. i Philip M. Sadler, member of the Board of Directors of theChamber of Commerce, also urged Council's reconsideration on the matter of free parking on the above dates. On motion duly made by J. C. Crumbley, Jr., seconded by w. A. Larson, it was unanimously Granted - RESOLVED, that the Town shall not enforce parking meter regulations on the dates of July 16, 17, 18, 1953, at which time a "million dollar sale" was to be - observed by local merchants . Shall not Council advised Messrs. Hayter and Sadler establish president that this action in no way establishe d a precedent and that future requests of similar nature would be individually decided on thei r merits . Goad T/A Star Cabs Por 1 taxi from, and the following is cancelled: Edwin Curtis Parks T/A Star Cabs 1 taxi PE~I~IQN The Town Manager read a petition for curb and CURB GUTTER - 4th ST gutter on Fourth Street, S.E., between Floyd and Draper Avenues, signed by the four property owners who represented the north s ide ~ of the street who agreed to pay one-half the cost. He estimated the work to~ cost X600.00 and recommended that it be done to alleviate a. bad street condition. On mots on duly made by 0. 0 . Crowell, seconded by I. R. Enga.g®meat There was some dis cus Sion regarding engagement of a~I' Auditor auditor-s services, .it being pointed out that, for the past several years, Mr. J. P. Miller had been employed to audit the Town- s accounts, whereas, in fairness, Dons ideration should!, also be given to one other local auditing cone®rn. In this eonne~Etion, it was advised that this concern could not be consi dared th~b present year, inasmuch as the owner was automatically disqu~.lified 1 due to his services as a councilman for a portion of the ye~M.r. On motion duly made by J. C. Crumbley, Jr., secondec~by J. R. Martin, i t was unanimously J.P.MILLER RESOLVED, that the services of J. P. Miller, Certified ENGA Cr'ED Public Accountant, be engaged to audit the Town-s finances ~'or the year ending June 30, 1953 at a maximum contract price nl~t to exceed X800.00. On motion duly made by ~/', F. VY'hite, second®d by F.~11.arshal it was unanimously 'RESOLVED, that the Peoples National Bank, Administrator of the J. G. Bosang Estate be notified that the Town intends to CO MMERC$ STREET PROPERTY 1 purchase a track of land located on Commerce Street, owned ~y the J. G. Bosang Estate, .priced at 8,500.00, with the neeei~sary appropriation to be prov ided at the meeting to fall within the next budget year. On motion duly made by 0. 0. Crowell, seconded by Vm'. F. V~'hite, and with a vote of 6-l, it was ' DRAINA(~ RESOLVED, that the Town improve drainage situations ~t S ITUATI6N3 the following two locations ; Prospect Avenue and 16th Strut, N.11~, and the east side of Randolph Avenue between 5th and 6~}h Streets, as per petitions in previous meetings, at an overal cost of X450.00 with one-half of the cost at the former location to be borne by the property owners, the necessary appropris~#ion to be made at the meeting falling within the next budget year.
