He- stated he- had nod been employed for- five- weerks and if his permit wes renewed- he- buld go to work for Checker° Cabs the following day'. Mr. Halt stated that he was the Chairman, however, in view of his- absence. from the activities of the Committee it was- his re=gixest that Mr. Phillips speak on behalf of his group. Mr. Phillips recited briefly, the various phases of the airport that had been gone into by the-Ccammitte He emp]~sized that in no way rFas the Committee tending to influence- the Council on the purchase of the propert~r or to bring pre~s-sure- to bewr on "the^ •Gouneil for and particular aetian. It was, as Mr. Phillips advised, the-policy of his group to exploit the airport to the fullest advantage to the Community and to assit the Council in any way possible in the gathering of material f~eeessary to the improvement and develoyment of the field. .Following Mr. Phillips, Mr. Steger and Mr. Harman made brief' comments. After some discussion between the Council and the members of the Committee, the Mayor thanked the Committee for their attendance and advised them of the appreciation of the Town for their interest in the field. The Mayor stated that the airport was not just a matter for'the Council but constituted a community project and it would, therefore, be necessary to have a©mmunity interest in order to properly use the facilities. . Chief Boothe told Council that Wesley ~arf had two convictions against him, one for forging a cheek and the other for unauthorized use of a station wagon. He said the forgery charge was tried in the last Circuit Court and that Mr. 16arf was suspended on good behavior. On motion by Councilman Farmer, seconded by ~. F. White, it was unanimously RESOLVED that l~fesley ~arf be granted a permit for six months on gpod behavior. After considerable discussion, and on motion of 1r. F. 1~hite, seconded by C-. 0. Crowell, with a recorded vote of 7 to ~, it wsa unanimously UOt) ' t; Cvunc it Minutes Cont ~ d Pulaski, V irginia, March 15, 1955; RESOLVED, that the Town purchaae the '3trauss and Bops properties-under option for the airport. ~i Mayor Jackson commented on the nuffiber of grass and ~f .: brush fires recently and stated that he--~ou.ld like for the~~ Town to have afire- regulation ordinance. $' Upon mtrtion duly madt by ~.F. 1lOhite, seconded by I. . ,~ Carper, it was unanimously RESOLVED, that the Town Attorney prepare an ordinane ,~ a', regulating the burning of grass and brush. ~~ The Town Manager stated that he- would like for C to have a spee•ial melting to discuss the r_ewis-ion oP the ~I ~: . business license ordinance, It wa•s. decided by Council to ~'~ meet on the -2Bth day of March, 1955, at 4:40 p. m., to corider t, f the business lice•nae ordinance and such other matters as ~I might be properly presented. ~i ~' ~! The :Town Manager' stated that a petition would soon . forthcoming from Harry Dtiincan for a- curb acrd got ter in fret i of his property on South Jefferson Avenue., and since there; s; are no streets intersecting Jefferson Avenue in that seeti~n, he would like to know what constitutes a block. 't On motion of V~. F. 1N`hite, seconded by M. A. Larson, .t was unanimously ~' ~~ ~( RESOLVED, that a block at this location be eonsidere as being between Second Street S. IN. and a ~~ projection of Pulaski Alley. ~~ ~~ 51 Upon motion duly made' by YI. F. ~Thite, seconded by I. ~R. Carper, it was unanimously RESOLVED, that X391.25 be paid Town Attorney Garnett Moore for work on Town Code. M ~~ I 2334 Council Minutes Con~ttd Pulaski, Virginia, March 15, 1955 t, Councilman white stated that he had been asked to bring before C-ouncil a complaivrt from Pulaski NanceCompany regarding the garbage Pee assessed against them. The company claims they are being charged X108.00 per ya~ar and that no-thing is ~ } being colle-cttd by the Town. The Town Manager was requested to look into this matter. Councilman P`ermeT req~.e-sted that the Town put some gravel on Pico Terrace Drive. After much discussion concerning the 'Little Leagae~ ball teams using Calfe~r Park for practice cessions and games, Mr. 169". A. Larson suggested that the Little- League leaders meet with Mr. Glenn Poarch, to discuss the matter.
