The minutes of the regular semi-monthly meeting held May 20, 1952 and .the special meeting held May 26, 1952 were re~N.d and approved. Mr. Talmage Lemons, President of the Pulaski Litt~l.e League, inquired whether the Little League would be allowed ta~use the Acid Plant Hill baseball diamond on a preference basis fore the season beginning June 11 and ending July 30, 1952, and if so, whether the Town would provide a cinder-block building to house equipment, restr©oma, backstop and bleachers. Mr. H. M. Bixle, Y.M.C.A. Secretary, also spoke on the matter, stating the fie]1~ would also be used for softball and other activities, such activities to be supervised by any Tows Recreation Department, although the baseball diamond would be earmarked for the Littl~b League. The Tows Manager advised Council that the Town had j,t completed grading of the diamond in the anderstanding that th `dia- mond would b® used by the Little League. Pulaski, Va.,June 3, 1952 BF CESSD~1 AND RESOLVED, the matter of alley between Dora Highway 1ST SN and 1st Street, S.W., from Pierce Avenue to Madison Avenue, made inaccessible by parking of cars near the residence of John W. Barlow, who appeared and requested action, be referred to the Town Manager. - AT.B.PHILLIPS JR. ~ - Mr.-Dorman 8. i'hillips, Jr., Engineer of the DEPT .OFHE.fILT~ . AAT State Department of Health, who was setting up a baeterio- DSPARTMENT logical stud at the- filter plant, stated the filter plant was in excellent condition and producing a very high grade of water, and reported completion of establishment of facil- ities to run bacteriological tests at the filter plant. He commended the filter plant personnel. On motion duly made by G. R. Steger, seconded by W. F. iKhite, it was unanimously . LITTLE LEA(3tTS RESOLVED, that the request of the Little REC~IIEST .DEFIED -Recommen8. League Baseball Team as set forth in the beginning of these Minutes, be denied with the recommendation that the Little League sponsors work out an arrangement with. the Recreation Director, when and if said offic® is filled. On motion duly made by J. R. Martin, seconded by 0. 0. Crowell, it was unanimously. DANIF~L DAVSS RESOLVED, that Daniel D. Davis be granted a PROBATION P~MIT (TAXI) taxi driverts permit on a probation basis of six months. - On motion duly made by 1~P'. F. 1~Ehite, seconded by ~1'. D. Gray Langhorne for an extension of Second Street, N.1~. b® approved at a cost not to exceed Five Hundred 0500.00) Dollars, contingent upon the Town Attorneyts approval and advice that a clear title could be provided. This land is described as such right-of-way as would be sufficient to provide a clear and unobstructed right- of-way for Second Street, 1d.W. from the bridge crossing the stream near Calfee School to Magazine Street. Detailed description of the right-of-way shall be included in the property deed transfer, said deed to be submitted to the Town Council for consideration prior to signature by Town officials. Gray Langhorne, as authorized ~` previously in these Minutes. x! 8; _ NORTHI~OOD AD®ITIaN The matter of propcs ed right-of-ways in Northwood ~" RT/~3t3 PROPOSAL Additive as brought before the Council at the last meeting w~s again presented. The Town Manager informed Council that he ad discussed the matter several times with Mr. Aust since the ],~s t Council meeting and that he, the Town Manager, felt that they; Town should go into the matter further with the idea oP enca~rgag-~ ing ~. Aust to develop his addition in a manner in which tt natural contours of the land would be best suited to present] street construction and possible future water and sewer line constsction~. The Town Manager gave to the Council copies of a ilMbugh drawing showing the present proposal of Mr. Aust to purchase~~or lease a strip of land situated in the southeast corner of tt~$ new ~; section of Oakwood Cem®tery. The strip of land would comma ~e at the common intersection of the properties of Dr. Milton •. Brockmeyer and Foy Aust and Oakwood Cemetery, thence extend .e ae eastward direction to the line fence between the Oakwood Cetery • and the property oP Mr. Foy Aust recently purchased from! Mrs} B.S. '~ Keister, said strip to be 60' wide. Mr. Aust proposed to purchase this land for 1,000.00 an acre, this land being 1/2 acre, t~ price would be $500.00. The Town Manager further advised ttt Mr. Aust had indicated that he planned to construct a 50tstet ~, through this strip of land, and that this street would conne~t two: parallel 50~ streets extending northward from Northwood Drive, ands further, that he desired to retain a 10' strip around the we t and' ry'~ north sides of this proposed section of land. The Council was of-the opinion that additional details should be worked out and that some provision should be made Por future street right-oF-way and possible water and sewer line way Prom the proposed Aunt strip to the Lee Highway. The Council Further indicated that they would prefer to lease the. land rath®r than sell to Mr. Aunt, and th®y did not favor the granting oP the so-called 10~ protection strip. R, Carp er, it was unanimously RESOLVED, that the matter be referred to the Town Attorney and the Town Manager For Further study with the request that they meet with Mr. Aunt, and should he continue to b® interested, that. the matter be presented at the neat Council meeting. GRE3TLII~'B DRIVE IMPROVBMEH'PS -Petition The Town Manager presented a petition Prom residents oP Crestline Drive, requesting. water and sewer lines and street improvements, On motion duly mad® by W. F. 1l~hite, seconded by I. R. Carper, it was unanimously RESOLVED, that the matter of water and sewer cosy E3TIItATEg~ TO BE PRESEIRI'I'ED 1 FIFTH ST.S.S. line and street improvements, more particularly the extension of water line to residents on Crestline Drive be referred to the Town Manager Por investigation and cost estimates. The Town Manager advised that he would present cost estimates on various jobs with the budget items, and these would include recent petitions received. The Town Manager advised he had recently written a letter to each resident previously signing a petition for improvements to Fifth Street, 3.E., advising them it would be asked for all persons affected to agree to those cuts and fills necessary in making requested improvements. It was. the consensus of Council that monthly repo~+ts from the Town Manager no longer need be submitted, but thatrsuch data as rendered monthly by various departments should be fled and made available if requested, and in lieu. of the monthly~repar~ts weekly reports would be acceptable. It was advised that Councilman Crowell would cont~ict the family of the late G. 1K. Mashburn regarding right-of-way desired by the Town, said matter pending for some time.
