Council Minutes Pulaski.,.Va., August 8, 950 The regular monthly meeting of the Town Council o~ the Town of Pulaski, Virginia waa held in the MunicipalBuilding s 4:DD p.m., Alugust 8, 1950. yi PRESENT There were present: Mayor Marvin G. MINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting held July 11, X950 were read and approved. BZG RAILROAD Mary Lovern appeaed before the Council and requested that BRIDGE REQUEST consideration be given to construction o f a bridge in the Bi~Rail- road section. to afford access across Peak Creek and to elimir~te tY~ use oP Norf.olk _.an d Western. Railway Company bridge for pedestan traffic. It was stated that this matter was being considerecfby the S-treat Committee. W.E.SWAIM W. E. Swaim appeared before the Council to reques~ that -Tr .Signal ~' Peirce & a traffic signal be installed~on Peirce and Maple Avenue to e~iminate Mapl• what was considered as a traffic hazard. Also, Mr. Swaim sta~ed th~.t steam from the pipe lines of the Virginia Oak Flooring Comp"~ obscurs~d vision of drivers at the location. APPLICATIONS °f FOR BLDG. On motion duly made by T. On motion duly made by H. R. Imboden, secorri ed by T. F. Wirt, it was unanimoua~ly PAS ?~ITCREASE RESOLVED, that the matter of requests for pa y REQUESTS increase from the Street. Department, Police Department and Fire Department be referred to the Finance Committee for study and report. On motion duly made by W. F. White, seconded by H. R. Imboden, it was unanimously FAY INCREASED RESOLVED, that, effective August 1, 1950, th e -M.C.Mosier pay of Mrs. M. C. Mosier be increased to 160.00 per month. Street extension on Eleventh Street, West, was discussed. EXTENSION -Dead End The Street Comm3.ttee reported that it~did not consider it advi~able Condition _to extend Eleventh Street to the foot of the hill, as 3t would~jrequi~-o a large culvert pipe, and a considerable amount of grading. I~ was suggested that.Mr. Linkous be contacted to determine whether p~ovidi a suitable turn around space at the end of Eleventh Street wou~d be n~ advisable. _ RIGHT OF The matter of providing additional Right-of-way o WAY-COMMERCE STREET Commerce Street to be obtained from Maud H. and Early L. Carper, it was unanimously RESOLVED, that the matter of obtaining additional' Hight-of-way on Cozmnerce Street, recommended by the Street Co.ittee~ ~~ from Laud H. and Early L. Smith be referred to the Mayor, To { ~i - Manager and Town Attorney for proceeding toward condemnatioa.~ 3~TREET ~ ~ ~ SURFACING ~ motion duly made by T. F. Wirt, seconded by G. R. Steger, it was unanimously RESOLVED, that the proposed list of streets sub tad by the Town Manager to be surface treated be approved, and Be It Further Resolved, that after this work is c~bm- pleted, provided funds are available, the alley east of the P~.aski High School between Second and Third Streets, and also, that east Eighth Street, from Franklin Avenue to Walnut ~Lvenue be inclu ~"Ilc~d in the program. Temporary stated that the street Committee had investigated the situati Improv . and it was their opinion that to open the street the entire d would be somewhat expensive for the amount of benefit to be and further,. that providing the connection into Washington A would create additional traffic hazard.
