Pulaski, Va., February 3, 1942 The Council of the Town of Pulaski met in monthly session tonight at 7:30 at the ~ayor~s office. There were present: Mayor E. ~~.Calfee, presiding; Lottie R. Bunion, Clerk; A. W. Gatewood, Director of Public Works, and Councilmen: A. T. Eskridge, ~. ~'. Wallner, L. E. Whitesell, F. A. Seagle, T. L. James and J. E. Bunts. Absent: A. ~. Bushong and G. C. Hall. D MINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting held on January 13th were read and approved. The bills and payrolls for the month of January BILLS & PAYROLLS were audited, approved and ordered paid. Said bills are given at the conclusion of these minutes. BUILDING The following building permits, coming within the PERMITS requirements of the ordinance were granted: G. W. Crigger for a one-story frame dwe111ng on the south side of 5th Street, South at upland Drive, to cost ~~2500.00; E. W. Covey for a one-story frame dwelling on the south side of 2nd St. N. E., old Pulaski Iron Company site, to cost X1000.00; G. I+~. ~1c~illan for one-story frame dwelling on the south side of Commerce St., West, to cost X400.00. GUARDS Eugene W. Snider, representing the Pulaski Civic AIRPORT Flying Club, appeared before the Council asking that the Town place guards at the local s#~r port, which request was referred to the finance committee for investigation. SIGNS Robert r. Beamer, representing the Pulaski Lions LIONS Cluf, appeared before the Council asking permission for the CLUB Lions Club to place their road signs on the streets within the corporate limits of the town. This permission was granted. A petition from residents on Garner and Chestnut PETIT ION WATER Streets, requesting the extension of water lines on said streets GARNER Chest- was presented, and the Council ordered an est~.mate of the nut Sts cost made and the matter to be given further consideration at the next meeting. 1 1 (cont'd) Council Minutes Conttd. ~r ~ _ ~~~, Pulaski, Va., February 3, 1942 PETITTON Interested property owners and residents presented a IR~PROVE- petition asking for the imp9pvement of 11th Street, i~arth from b"FLATS Y 11th St.N•Randolph Ave. west. On motion duly made, seconded and unanimGUSl y passed, the Council authorized that said street be graded and graveled. B~SE~BALL Upon application of H. F. Groseclose to rent Calfee FIELD Athletic field for the baseball season, beginning I~ay 1st and LEASE ending September 15th, 1942, for playing professional baseball,, the following resolution was passed: On motion of Councilman T. J. ti'fallner, seconded by Councilman T. L. James, and unanimously passed, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor be and is hereby authorized and directed to enter into a lease with H. F. Groseclose or any organization he may direct, for the rental of the baseball pars for the baseball season beginning May 1st and ending September 15th, 1942, for the sum of Three Hundred 0300.00) Dollars, payable in advance, with the understanding that no baseball games or other amusements are to be held on Sunda3s for which admission is charged- this in conformity with the present tows ordinance prohibiting the use of the field on Sundays for purposes for which paid admissions are charged. RECREA_ In the matter of the petition of the PulBSki j++jinisterial T IONS, Association and other interested citizens, the following resolJu- COM~dI S- SION tion was passed: On motion of Councilman T. J.V9allner, seconded by Councilman J. E. Lunts, and unanimously passed, BE IT RESOLVED that in response to a petition today presented to the Council from the Pulaski B~inisterial Association and other interested citizens~rec~uesting the appointment of a': Commission on Recreation for the Town of Pulaski, that the ` Council hereby authorizes and directs the Mayor to appoint such a commission to consist of five citizeAS of the Town of Pulaski.
