There were present: Mayor E. ~V. Calfee, presiding; LottSe
R. Runion, Clerk; A. ~y. Gatewood, Director of Public iNorks, and
Councilmen: A. T. Eskridge, T. J. Vuallner, L. E. Whitesell, J. E.
Bunts, F'. A.Seagle, T. :v. James and G. C. Hall. Absent: A. M.
Bushong.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on February 3rd,
and special meeting held on February 21st, were read and approved.
fihe regula-r bills and payrolls for the month of Februar~-
were aud~„~e~d~~'a.;ppro~ed and ordered paid. Said bills are given
at the conclusion of these minutes.
The following building permits, coming within the re-
~uirements of the ordinance, were granted: To D. Robley ~~ood
for 1~-story brick and frame dwelling on the north side of
13th St. N. ~., between Jefferson and nanolph Avenues, to cost
X7200.00; K. V. ~rugh for one-story frame duelling on the east
side of Hickory Avenue, East Pulaski, between 8th St. and Pepperis
Ferry Road, to cost X1800.00; Felix Lepschitz for brick and
cinder block extension to business building on the north side
of 2nd St., ~i. E. between r~adison and U'tlashington Avenues, to
cost x:1500.00; John Dehart for one-story frs.me dwelling on the
east side of Jefferson Ave., Sout¢ Extended at 6th St. S.Vti.
to cost X800.00; Mrs. C. T. Hall for one-story 2-room house on
the north side of 7th St. N. E., north of Vdalnut Avenue, East
Pulaski, to cost xs500.00; G. M. Mcauillan for one-story frame
dwelling on the south side of the N. & Vd. Railway near the west
corporate limits, to cost X500.00; W. F. ~~hite for frame additign
to the Virginia Oak Flooring plant 30 feet east of Perice Avenue
to cost X500.00.
Dr. T. F. ~acGough, of the Health Department, appeared .~
before the Council and made a report on examination of food
handlers under a recent Town ordinance. 'Kith reference to
tubercular tests for food handlers, he was given permission to
make further examinations and tests for tuberculosis.

Pulaski, Va., March 3, 1942
Pursuant to a resolution passed by the Council
at its February meeting, authorizing the appointment of a
Recreation~&. Commission, the mayor announced the following
commission: The Rev. D. Trigg James, J. C. Dobson, A. I.
Crowell, Foy Aust, Howard C. Gilmer, Jr., P~. L. Dudley and
%irs. miller A. Bushong, and Dr.,J. E. Greer. _
In the matter of a petition from residents on
Garner and Chestnut streets, requesting the extension of
water lines to said streets, Mr. A. ~ti. Gatewood, as directed
at theFebruary meeting, submitted an estimate amounting
to ~9I8.79, and reported adverse as to the proposed project,
due to inadequate pressure to supply the line. After con-
sidering the report, the petition was denied.
On motion of T. ~. Wallner, seconded by J. E.
Bunts, and unanimously passed, the Council approved an
appropriation of ~:I,000.00 to the Pulaski County Civilian
Defense.
On motion of A. T. Eskridge, seconded by T. J.
~tiallner, the Council authorized a loan not to exceed
x'15,000.00, to be negotiated as might be needed.
There being no further business, the Council
adjourned at 8:45 P. M.
