HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-02-42.,r Council Minutes Pulaski, Va., June 2, 1942 The Council of the Town of Pulaski met in monthly PRESENT MINiJTES session tonight at the Mayorts office. There were present: Mayor E. W. Calfee, presiding; Lottie R. Runion, clerk; A. ~~d. Gatewood, Director of Public Works, and Councilmen: A. T. Eskridge, T. J. Wallner, L. E. Whitesell, J. E. Bunts, F. A.Seagle, T. L. James and G. C. Hall. Absent: A. M. Bushong. The minutes of the regular meeting held on May 5, 1942 were read and approved. The regular bills and payrolls for the month of May BUILDING PERMITS 1 THORP &. CO. Permit were audited, approved and ordered paid. Said bills are given,, at the conclusion of these minutes. The following building permits coming within the requirements of the ordinance were granted: To. Clifton Jones for 1~-story frame dwelling on the west side of Madison Ave., between 5th and 6th streets, South East; to cost X2500.00; R. Z. Garlic for one-story 2-room frame dwelling on back of lot on the north side of Locust Street, East Pulaski near Newbewtn Road, to cost X500.00; Virgie Jackson for one-story frame dwelling on the north side of 3rd street East Pulaski, to cost X500.00; J. H. Gibbs for converting garage building into g- room frame house on the north side of 6th St. N.E., to cost X100.00; Cha-rlie Perry for addition of porch and steps to frame dwelling on the north side of 2nd Street, N. W'. to cost X15.00; Mrs. Mary S. Beamer for brick coal house on the south side of 3rd St. N.W. to cost ~~250.00 . On the application of Thorp & Company for permissior~i to build~a shed and office estimated to cost X200.00, on the south side of Commerce Street, to b e used in connection with dunk business- this permit is granted on the condition that for the duration it is to be ~. ~emp~~~~ry~ Tt.i.ness~and that the owner may be rewired by the ~euncil to remove the same at any time that it may see fit. TOWN REGISTRAR The Mayor stated that Mr. W.W. .Cave, Town Registrar RESIGNATION had submitted his resignation, and on motion of A. T. Eskridge, seconded by T. J. ;1(allner and unanimously p.ssed, Mr. Caves resignation was accepted. APPOINT- On further motion, duly made and seconded, Cdr. MENT F.C.ROB- Frank C. Robinson was appointed to succeed Mr. Cave as INSON Registrar for the Town. ~n- At the last meeting of the Council, it was PETITION CURB & ordered that an estimate be made of the cost of installing GUTTER 5th St.N.tN. curb and gutter on the north side of 5th street, between Denied Jefferson and Randolph avenues and an alley east of Randolph Avenue in front of the properties of Mrs. Constance Meredith and others. Estimate A. W.Gatewood, Director of Public Works, submitted an estimate of X2,022.55, covering cost of putting in curb and gutter on both sides of said street. The Street Committee reported to the Council that there was no promise or agreement with the property owners to install the above mentioned curb and gutter. Whereby, on motion of T. J.Wallner, seconded by F. A. Seagle and unanimously passed, the petition of the property owners asking for the installation of said curb and gutter was denied. The Director of Public Works was instructed to put crushed stone on said street between the hard surface and ditch line.
