Council Minutes
Pulaski, Va., February 5, 1942
The Council of the Town of Pulask$ met in monthly
session tonight at 730 at the Muyorfs office.
PRESENT There were present: ~Guyor A. T. Eskridge, pre-
siding; C. Vti. Bushong, acting-clerk, A. W. Gatewood, director
of public works, and Councilmen: 0. P. Jordan, L. E.
M1~hitesell, J. E. Bunts, G. C. Hall, T. L. James, F'. A.
Seagle and A. :~. Bus~ong. Absent: J. K. Harrison.
MINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting held on January
5, 194 were read and approved.
BiLLa & The regular bills and payrolls for the month
PAYROLLS
of January were audited, approved and ordered paid.
BUILDING The following building permits, coming within the
PERi~ITS re.~uirements of the ordinance were grunted; subject to
governmental approval: To Pulaski County, for 2-room cinder
block addition to the jail property on 2nd Street, N/ E. to
cost X800.00. Frank J. Clark for restorGtion of frame
dwelling at 601 Stuart Avenue, S.E., to cost ~~2,346.00.
The application of E. D. Ha11 fort3~e converjaion
of a poultry house into a stable on his premises on lath
Street, N. 'JV. was denied, the ordinance prohibiting such
a building in that section.
STREETS '
PETITION A committee appeared before the Council, asking
HIGHLAND for improvements on Highland Avenue in the Southwest section.
AVE.
The street committee reported that they had investigated
this street and did not deem it feasible at this time, and
the Council, on motion duly made, seconded and unanimously
passed, directed Mr. Gatewood to make such improvemcan is
that he might deem expedient as soon as weather conditions
permited.
PETITION In the matter of reiuest for street improvements

Bear A numerously signed petition by residents of West
at large
Pulaski, complaining about a bear roving at l~,r~e in that
section, was presented. The Council referred the matter to
the chief of police to take up with the proper parties
and instruct them that the bear must be confined, and that
they were held personally responsible for any damage caused
by the bear.

M. C. Pierce submitted the police report for the
month of January, which was ordered filed.
Pursuant to an ordinance passed by the Council,
at the January 5, 1943 meeting, creating a Public Recreation
Commission and prescribing terms of memlbers, organization
potivers and duties, the Mayor submitted the following
names, which, upon motion duly made, seconded and unanimously
passed, were approved:

Municipalities.

the ~uayor, with the assistance of t~ze chief of police, was

authorized~(to employ an operater for the police switch board
for the purpose of handling all telephone calls and contacting
the proper departments, with the view of eliminating the '
necessity of these calls coming through the treasurer's of fide.
