Council Minutes Pulaski, Virginia, larch 7, 1944
The Council of the Town of Pulaski met in monthly
session tonight at 7:30 at the I~ayor~s office.
There were present: B~ayor ~. T. Eskridge, presiding,
Lottie R. Runion, Clerk; a. ~~. Gatewood, Director of Public
Works; Roby K. Sutherland, attorney, and Councilmen: L. E.
Whitesell, J. E. Bunts, 0. i'. Jordan, F. a. Seagle, G. C.
Hall, A. i~. Bushong and T. L. James. absent: J. K.. Harriso~i.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on February
8, 1944 were read and approved.
The regular bills and payrolls for the month of
February were audited, approved and ordered paid. Said bill
are given at the conclusion of these minutes.
The following building permits, coming within the
requirements of the ordinance, and subject to governmental
approval, were granted:To J. S. Herron for cinder block
shed over scales at his lumber business on the south side
of 2nd Street, N. E. between ~tadisan and Franklin avenues,
to cost X50.00. To E. ~~. Covey for addition to office
building on the south side of 2nd 5t. N. E. to cost X150.00
fir. R. K. Sutherland, Town attorney, reported
that after investigation of the tax code, he found that the
five-year Statute of Limitations applied to tangible personal
property and poll taxes, and the five-year limitation beginri3ng
on the date on which the penalty is added.
~, C. Pierce submitted the police report for the
month of February, which was ordered filed.
On motion of T. ~:. James, seconded by J. E. Bunts,

and unanimously passed, the deed between the Town of Pulas]~i
and the Pulaski Veneer Corporation and Coleman Furniture
Corporation, transferring certain easements covering the
drainage system through the properties of the said Veneer
and Coleman companies was approved by the Council, and
the Mayor ~ Clerk were authorized to execute same on the
part of the Town.

SURVEY On motion of A. ~. Bushong, seconded by F. k. Seagle,
WEST END and unanimously passed, the Council authorized, that if
BRIDGE
possible, the State Highway Department be secured to make survey
and proposed plans for a bridge on hest Commerce Street,
crossing Peak Creek near the old Steel Plant,.~.acting upon
the suggestion of fir. ~. ~d. Gatewood, Director of Public
ti~orks.
The question of an increase in salary for J. Lloyd

5r_LtiRY Patterson, Assistant Treasurer, was brought before the

PtiT'I' ERSON Council, and on motion of J. E. Bunts, seconded by k. BG.
Bushong, and unanimously passed, it was decided to apply
the ~p300.00 carried in the budget for collector during
the year, to be added to ter. Patterson~s salary at the
rate of X50.00 per month for the remainder of the fiscal
year and beginning as of March 1, 1944.

appointed to look over and decide about removing trees
on certain driveways in Oakwood Cemetery.
In the matter of a 5-foot sidewalk on the South
5-Foot Walk
R.A.Hudson side of 2nd St. N, E. along the property of R. 1~. Hudson,
property brought before the Council at the February meeting, ~Ar.
A. W. Gatewood reported that estimate had been made and
submitted to the operator of Tom s Grill, who advised that
the matter would be taken up with the owner, fir. Hudson,
and the Town would be advised wYlether or not he wanted to
proceed with the work.

T~kES Galliaore property, bordering on Fifth Street, S. E., was

GaLLIrr`iORE brought before the Council. Due to certain complications
and adjustments felt necessary, after discussion, on
motion of A. dri. Bushong, seconded by F. A.. Seagle, and
unanimously passed, it was the decision of the Council
that taxes from the year 1941 forward be collected.
