Pulaski, Virginia, September 6, 1938
The Council of the Town of Pulaski met in monthly ses-
sion at 7:30 otclock at the Mayor's office.
PRESEI4T There were present: Mayor E. W. Calfee, presiding;
Lottie R. Runion, clerk; A. W. Gatewood, director public works,
and Councilmen: A. T. Eskridge, T. J. Wallner, L. E. White -
sell, A. Ia. Bushong, T. L. James, J. E. Bunts and G. C. Hall.
Absent: F. A. Seagle.
OATHS Councilmen J. E. Bunts and A. M. Bushong were quali-
fied by the Mayor, administering the required oath of office.
MINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting held on August
2nd, 1938 and the organization meeting held on September
1st were read and approved.
BILLS & A detailed statement of the regular bills and pay -
PAYROLLS rolls for the month of August was audited, approved and on
motion duly made seconded and unanimously passed, ordered
paid. Said bills are given at the conclusion of these
minutes.
BUILDING The following building permits, coming within the
PERMITS requirements of the ordinance were granted: To J. C. Dobson
for a stone and shingle dwelling on the north side of
Prospect Ave., to cost X10,000.00 to $121000.00; to
M. B. Owen for a two-story business house, brick, on the
north side of 2nd St. N. between Washington and Madison
Avenues, to cost X12,000.00; to J. Luther Bunts for a
framodrelling on the north side of 5th St. N. to cost
k4,500.00; to J. A. Rupe for a one-story brick dwelling
on the east side of Peirce Ave. between 4th St. So.
and Jackson Ave., to cost X3,500.00; to S. W. Whisman
for a one-story frame (telling on the west side of Floyd
Ave. between 2nd St. and 3rd St. S.E., to cost 41,800.00;
to James McClanahan for a one-story concrete block dwelling
on the east side of Prospect Ave. between 15th and 16th
Sts. No. to cost x;1,200.00; to R. M. Hurst for a 12 -story
frame addition to his dwelling on the east side of Floyd Ave. to
cost X800.00; to W. E. Carrico for a second floor addition
to his brick garage on the north side of 4th St. N., to
cost X700.00; to James Warf for a frame stable on the
south side of 4th St., East Pulaski, to cost 440.00; to

13th St. N. V. to cost X150.00, and for a storage house to
cost 0200.00; to W. F. White for a brick and concrete dust
bin and storage place for shavings at his lumber plant on
the north side of Maple Ave.; to Cooper Johnston for a
fire -proof street cur lunch room on the north side of 2nd Stt!
N. W. to cost $50.00; to T. ti:. Dickerson and C. G. Blanken—
ship for a fire -proof street car lunch room, with brick
kitchen, on the south side of Commerce St., to be set back
20 ft. of Lee St., to cost X500.00.
A committee representing the American Legion Post
No. 7 appeared before the Council, asking permission to hold'.
a carnival on the American Legion lot at Cool Springs, week
of September 26th, and on motion duly made, seconded and

unanimously passed, permission was granted.
PETITION
A petition was presented by citizens complaining

RINK
of the noise of the skating rink on Washington Ave., and Mr.;
Vern de Camp and Mr. R. I. Brown, representing the American ;
Legion, agreed to have the rink removed from the Legion lot
by the end of September, and to have the music discontinued
immediately.
PETITION
LIGHTS
A petition asking for additional street lights on
PEIRCE AVE. Peirce Ave. was referred to the Light Committee with power to

to cooperate with the Department of Agriculture in control off,

ALLEYS
On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously pass (44y

the Council authorized the opening of alleys in Block 32,
running parallel with 2nd St. and Madison Ave.
WLRRANT
On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously passed,
PICO TER,
the action of the Mayor in issuing a warrant to the County
PROJECT
School Board for X2500.00, the townts appropriation toward the:
road project to Pico Terrace School, was approved.

SPEED Mr. C. E. Richardson, manager of the Pulaski Veneer
REGULATIONS
AT Corporation submitted in writing a request, asking for
Pulaski safety's sake, enforcement of speed regulations in the zone
Veneer
Plant of the plant, and on motion duly made, seconded and unanimous-
ly passed, his request was granted, and the Council further
directed the Pulaski Veneer Corporation to erect two signs
at convenient points, warding drivers to be on the alert
for the corporation's log trucks entering and leaving the
premises.
