There vrere present: Mayor E. 4'a. Calfee, presiding; Lottie R. Runion, Clerk; A. ~u.Gatev;ood, Director Public Viorks, and Councilmen: T. J. e~~allner, L. E. ~'dhitesell, J. E. Bunts, F. A. Seagle, T. L. James and G. C. Hall; Absent: A. T. Eskridge and ~,. M. Bu~Fshong The minutes of the regular meeting held on April 2nd, 1940 were read and approved. A detailed statement of the regular bills and pay- rolls for the month of April were audited, approved and ordered paid. Said bills are given at tree conclusion of these minutes. Church of presented a petition, setting forth thGt t.~ey understood God Building t~iGt the Church of God had secured un option -for a lot` belonging to Ballard hardy on Valle; Street, with the .view of erecting t:~ere•on a church ruilding. The petitioner~t set forth that they r;Gnted to file 4 ~~rotest ag4inst the grunting of a per:~it for the erection of the proposed church in tine event upplication_for the building had been made or would be :~s.de. The petitioners vrere informed ~' ths.t there was no such application before the Council, ~~ n~, ~-- but in the event there should be, they would be given an opportunity to be heard. REPORT The committee of the Council appointed at the April COdiriITTEE C ~rc;i OF GOD meeting to investigate the location of a church building JEFNiR OId on Jefferson Ave., South, applied for by the Church of God, Ave.~o. Site. reported that the said Church had given up the option on the proposed site. EXTENSION In the matter of the extension of the sevrer lines SE~JER LINES PJorth between Randolph and Prospect Avenues on i~th, 1`th, 14th, 4`uest Sec. & 15th, 16th, streets, IJ. 4'J. , and a portion of Randolph Ave., DORA HIGH- 'rdxY. A. VJ. Gatewood,Director of Public 'forks, submitted an estimate of the cost of said project of ~~;~,829.00. On motion duly made, seconded anti unanimously passed, the Mayor was a.nstructed to make application to the ~`~orks Progress Administration for this Sewer Project, and to include therein, the extension of the sewer lines on Dora Highvray, East, a petition of interested property ovaners having been presented. G.C.BO'~'dLING G. C, Bowling made application for the opening of Street on .dlaple a 20-foot wide street across Maple Shade Inn lawn, east of Shade Inn Lavrn the hotel, running from the drivetiray back to First Street, South, submitting a map for the plans. On motion duly made seconded and unanimously passed, this application liras referred to the Street Committee for investigation and poorer to act. ~,~, Councilman Seigle was named to act with said co,~nmittei~, in lieu of Councilman ~. Pulaski, Va., day 7, 1940 A petition was filed by a committee from the various industrial plants, requesting the Council to permit moving pict~ares and baseball on Sundays from 1:30 P. iu1. to 6:00 P . ~~ . On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously passed, action was deferred till the next meeting of the Council. There being no f"urther business, the Council adjourned at 9:00 P. ~.
