There were present: Mayor E. W. Calfee, presiding, Lottie R. Runion, clerk; A. W. Gatewood, Director-Public Works, and Councilmen:. A. T.Eskridge, L. E.Whitesell, J. E. Bunts, T. L. James and G. C. Hall. Absent: T. J. Wallner, F. x. Seagle and A. M. Bushong. The minutes of the regular meeting held on May 7, 1940 were read and approved. A detailed statement of the regular bills and payrolls for the month of gay was audited, approved and on motion duly made, seconded and unanimously passed, ordered paid. Said bills are given at the conclusion of these minutes. The following building permits, coming within the requirements of the ordinance were granted: To Apostolic Church for a one-story concrete and stucco church building on the north side of 5th St., N. E., corner of P~alnut Ave., to cost x:4,000.00; Ray Tilley for one-story frame dwelling on the north side of Pulaski St. to cost X2,500.00; C. F. Sheppard for two-story frame dwelling on the east side of Lexington Ave., South~at 3rd Street, to cost X2,500.00; Ferd Harvey for one-story cinder block and concrete business building on the west side of Madison Ave., 1~. between 2nd and 3rd Sts. north, to cost X2500.00; Earl Gress for improvements to dwelling on the south side of JacksonAve., So., between Duple Ave. and Pine St., S.E., to cost X2,000.00. Ddrs. Alice Horton for one-story frame dwelling on the north side of 4th St., East Pulaski to cost X62,000.00; D. 0. Ratcliff for one-story frame and brick dwelling on the east side of Jefferson Ave., South near 6th St., to cost X61500.00; Lon S. Slasher for one-story frame dwelling on the north side of 4th Streets East Pulaski to cost 100.00; W. H. STREET On the recommendation of the Light Committee, LIGHTS 4th St. the Council authorized the installation of one light on & Ridge St &Newbern Ave. .4th St b; ~nioh Avenue, and two lights on Ridge Street, East P. Gatewood, Director of Public Works for estimate. ~~COUNT The Council authorized the purchase of a painting PULASKI" of nCount Pulaski" from L. H. Dewey, at a price of X60.00. PAINTING A petition from citizens and property owners PETITION Req. re- in West Pulaski, requesting the removal of the city trash moval of trash dumpgump from that section was referred to k. W. Gatewood, West P. Director of Public Works. WATER LINE EXT EN- SIGN ~acgill Sub-Div. Mr. D. Robley Wood, representing the Peoples Nation~a. Bank, appeared before the Council requesting the extension of the water line in East Pulaski. On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously passed, the Council authorized the extension of a 4t+ water line from the East Corporate limits on Newborn Road, along the north side of j'~ewbern Road to and following the south side of Section "A-~ of the ~acgill sub-division, 1350 feet in length, with the provision that the Peoples National Bank bear the entire expense connected therewith. Howard contain- BASE ' Ball ing signatures of 601 for Sunday base ball and 588 for PETITION Sunday movies , requesting the Council to legalize Sunday ~. baseball and movies from 2:00~to 6:00 P. M. Dr. W. W. Arrowood and Rev. Jesse H. Clay, represent- ing the Pulaski Ministerial Association, appeared before the Council opposing the petitions. After hearing the ministers interpose their objections and a general discussion, Councilm~un.-F3uni:e~~ndved that the petitiongbe indefinitely tabled, which motion was .seconded by Councilman Eskridge. Following further discussion of l~r. Bungs motion, he withdrew said motion and a substitute one was offered by Mr. Eskridge, seconded by Mr. Hall, to the effect that the petitions be denied. On a recorded vote with two votes, Mr. Eskridge and Mr. H~.11 for, and three, Messrs. Whitesell, James and Bunts against, said motion was declared over ruled. On motion of Councilman Eskridge, seconded by~ Councilman James, and unanimously passed, the request for Sunday movies, as set forth in the petition was denied.
