The Council of the Town of Pulaski met in monthly

session tonight at 7:30 at the i~ayor~s office.
There were present: mayor E. wif. Calfee, presiding,
Lottie R. Runion, clerk; A. W. Gdtewood, Director Public
Wor'~s, and Councilmen: ti. T. Eskridge, L. E.rtihitesell, J. E.
Bunts, T. L. James and G. C. Hall. Absent: F. ti. Seagle, T.
J.~'Vallner and A. m. bushong.
The minutes of the regular melting held on June 6,
1940 were read and appro'~ed.
A detailed statement of the regular bills and payrolls
for the month of June was audited, approved and on motion
duly made, seconded and unamiously passed, ordered paid.
Said bills are given at the conclusion of these minutes.
The following building permits, coming within the
requirements of the ordinance were granted: To Mary Lou JVhite
and :hrs. J. R. Glenn, for a two-story brick dwelling on the
narth side of Fif thSt. North, ~ietwee~ Jefferson and Randolph
Avenues, to cost X9,000.00; W. F'. Thomas for a two-story
brick dwelling on the east side of ProspectAve., between
9th and 10th Streets, to cost X7500.00; G. S. Bunn, Jr., for
a two-story asbestos sh ingle dwelling on the east side of
Lexington Ave., between Dora Highway and First Street, South,
to cost X4,000.00; G. S. Bunn, Sr., for a one-story brick
dwelling on the north side of 8th Street, North, between
Jefferson and Randolph hvenues, to cost X4,000.00; Mrs. Gilbert
Bratton for a one-story frame dwelling on the west side of
Pinnacle Street, ~r`est Pulaski, to cost X2,000.00; Harry gust
for a one-story cinder block store room on the south side of
2nd Street, N. E., on old Pulaski Iron Co. property, to .
cost X1400.00; J. B. Meador for one-story frame garage
on the south side of Second Street., South, to cost X75.00;
i~rs. ~. P. ~errimee for frame garage on the east side of
Henry Ave., at 4th St. N. rd., to cost X50.00; J. H. Lytton
for a ~ua~aeteo~l house on the south side of Pulaski Street,

PRIdCIPAL The abstract of the votes cast in the town election
ELECTION for the ensuing term, effective September 1, 1940, and cer-
tified by the fudges of said election, was read. Upon
motion duly made, seconded and unanit~ously passed, the ab-
stract was ordered filed as a part of the minutes of this
session. The abstract follows:
Abstract of votes cast in the town of Pulaski,
Vag., for Mayor, Treasurer, Clerk and Councilmen on June
11th, 1940 at the election held in said town.
~ favor: For E. Pd. Calfee were cast one hundred
~` and fifty-five (155) votes.

hundred and fifty-five (155) votes.
For Clerk of Counc For Lottie R. Runion vrere
cast one hundred and fifty-five (1551 votes.

were cast twenty-four (~4) votes. For. J. E. Bunts were
cast twenty-three (23) votes.
For Councilmen for Second Ward: For ~. T. Eskridg e
were cast eighty (80) votes. For L. E.~~hitesell were cast
seventy-seven (77) votes.
Four Councilmen for ~'hird VYard: F'or T. L. James
were cast twenty-eight (~i3) votes. ~'or G. C. Hall, were
cast twenty-eight (28) votes.
For Cou~c,ilmen for Fourth Vlard: F'or F. A. Sesgle
were cast twenty-one (~1) votes. For ~. b~. Bushong were cast
twenty-one X21) votes.
A total.of one hundred and .s ixty (160) votes were
cast with five (5) defaced ballots.

in the Town of Pulaski, Virginia, on the 11th day of June,
1940, certify that the above statement of votes is a true and
correct abstract from the returns of said election.

REPORT The report of the Citizens Committee on the united
CITIZENS
COi~~IlITTEE States Rousing authority project in Pulaski was presented
U.S.HOUSING
AUTHORITY to the Council, and of ter discussion, ar:com~ittee::~omposed of
Councilmen A. T. Eskridge, J. E. Bunts, G. C. Hall and F. ti_
Beagle, was appointed to confer with the Board of Supervisors
and the Citizens committee, and report to the Council at its
next meeting.
STREET J. W. Smith and Dorsey Shelar appeared before the
SO.SIDE
Council, requesting tha ~ street on the south side of
Lee Highway, in block 158 be opened. On motion duly made
seconded and unanimously passed, this matter was referred
to the Street committee for investigation and report.
;~T OLIVET The request for improvements to the Mt Olivet Road
ROKD
was refferred to A. W. Gatewood, Director of ~'ublic ~+orks,
for investigation and report,
