PRESENT Lottie ~Jorks, Bunts, A. There were present: mayor E. `Jy. Calfee, presiding, R. Runion, clerk; A. 4~a~ Gutev~ood, Director of Public and Councilmen: ti. i'. Eskridge, L. E. `~~hitesell, J. Suid bills are given at the conclusion of these minutes. BUILDING The following building permits, coming within the PERMITS requirements of the ordinance were grd-nted: To JUhn H. Shuff for a 1-1/2 story brick dwelling on tre west side of Prospect Avenue at 12th Street, ly. 6`r., to cost x:6,,`.;00.00; Fr~.nk J. Cri~tzer for remodelling brick dwelling on the vaest side of 12th St., and Jefferson hve., to cost.~:2,500.00; D. R.V~ood for remodelling brick dwelling on the south side of 8th St. N. Vd. between Jefferson and Washington Avenues, and converting into apsrtmeimt house, to cost X2,500.00; Mrs. Ervie b. Elkins for addition of three rooms to her frurne dwel-ring on the west side of `~'Jashington Ave, at First 5t., South, to cost $1,000.00; J. R. S E'~~~ ER EXTENSION James, and unanimously passed, the Council authorized the IAPLE ST. S. `~. installation of a san~,tary sewer line on ~'danle Street, S. W., to serve 25 houses in that congested area, at an estimated ~; cost of x:1,250.00. LOT The Finance committee, aut'riorized at the September; PUL~iSKI a ST. Council meeting, to sell,~certain lot belonging to the town ~; !k located on Pulaski street, near Valley Street, reco~nnended the sale of the lot at Three Hundred~v,300.00) Dollars. ~ 2Uti Council minutes Cont. P ulaski, Va., iVov. 8, 1940 DEED On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously passed, EFFIE i~ILLER the Council approved the report of the canmittee, and the LOT mayor was authorized to execute the deed to Effie :filler for the said lot. STATE The Mayor advised th~Council that a State Police Radio POLICE RADIO Station was being contemplated on too of Draper mountain, and. STATION that in the event the project d evelooed, it would be necessary for the town to deed a right of way for transmission lines through its properties. On motion duly :made, seconded and unanimously passed, the ~dayor was em;~ovaered to execute a deed for the right of way to the~State. RESOLU- On motion of A. T. Eskridge, seconded by T. L. James, TION and unanimously carried, the following resolution was adopted: HOUSING nWHEREAS, the Council has been informed that the PROJECT HERCULES nited States Government contemplates the erection of some AREA nine hundred or one thousand dwelling; houses, in what is known as the ~~Hercules Areat~ in the intere.~t of National Defense, a.nd WHEREAS it is the sense of the Council of the TTown of Pulaski tn.at this community should patriotically assist the Government in providing the necessary housing; BE IT RESOLVED by the Council that the Tovm of Pulaski, Virginia will provide the public utilities. and community services necessary to service. one hundred {100) houses, if built within the corpor~+.te limits of the Town of Pulaski and at points where the utilities can be ecancmically furnished.
