HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-06-710 4 / Minutes of the regular meeting of the Pulaski Town Council, held July 6, 1971, at 4:00 P. M., in the Municipal Building. There were present: Mayor C. Robert Edens, presiding. Coun=ilmen: S. G. Frye, Raymond F. Ratcliff, J, L. Congrove, J. H. White, A. L. Graham, Mason A. Vaughan, Glen K. Aust Absent: Wm. A. House Also present: Town Manager: J. E. Marshall Clerk: Gladys R. Dalton Town Attorney: Garnett S. Moore Visitors: Jane Graham and Esther Williams, Southwest Times reporters Mrs. Mary Baker and Mrs. Alston The invocation was given by Councilman Frye. The minutes of June 21st and 29th were approved as recorded. Mrs. Baker appeared before Council, representing her aunt, Mary D. Wilson, who had pending before Council an application for permission to place a house trailer on lot at 902 Jackson Avenue. It was brought out that Mary D. Wilson is presently living in New York but aaill be=returning to Pulaski very shortly and plans to live in the trailer for which she has made application to Council. It was also brought out that there is already one trailer on this Lot which is occupied by Mrs. Alston, who is employed by the United Methodist Church in Mission Work and there is the possibility that Mrs. Alston will be transferred from the Pulaski area sometime within the next year. It was stated that an inquiry had been directed to the United Methodist Church District Superintendent, Dr. Steele, relative to when Mrs. Alston might be transferred, but todate no answer had been received from Dr. Steele. Councilman Frye moved that a permit be granted to Mary D. MARY D.WILSON Wilson to place a trailer at 902 Jackson Avenue, contingent upon the TRAILER APPLIC.APPRO. contents of a letter from Dr. Steele and that the extra trailer, now SUBJECT TO STIPULATIONS occupied by Mrs. Alston, be removed from the land by July 1, 1972. the motion was seconded by Councilman White, and carried. Councilman Graham advised that in order for the Council to have some knowledge of same, asked that a water pressure problem on NEEDMORE the north side of Pulaski, be placed on the agenda for the next Council WATER PRESSURE PROBLEM TO meeting. It was moved, seconded and carried, that the agenda carry this BE ON NEXT AGENDA item of Council business. \! S /. ~ Y/ lJ ~' July 6, 1971 As requested by Chairman Ratcliff, Town Manager Marshall reported that the Beautification Committee wanted to place some type of monument in the Park in front of the new Municipal Building, and had decided on a 20 x 24 inch plaque JACKSON PARK MONUMENT TO with the inscription "Jackson Park Named in Honor of C. V. BE PLACED IN PARK & NEW Jackson, Mayor 1953 - 1968" to be mounted on a stone similar BENCHES TO ALSO BE PLACED to the one at Gatewood Reservoir, only much smaller. He further THEREIN stated that the cost of the monument would be paid out of the 1970-71 Beautification Funds. He further reported that eight C8) mint green park benches had been ordered to be installed in the park at a later date. Mayor Edens reviewed the many Town Committees appointed REAPPOINTMENTS TO VARIOUS either by Court Order, Ordinance of Council, of by the Mayor, and COMMITTEES DISCUSSED suggested that Council be thinking of these in order that the proper reappointments could be made shortly. A short discussion was held as to when the Recreation NO DATE FOR area at Gatewood Reservoir would be opened to the public. No OPENING GATEWOOD definite date has been established. REC . AREA Town Manager Marshall reported on the installation of the recently received playground equipment at Sixth Street Park and PAYGROUND EQUIP .PLACED Dora Highway Par, and stated it was hoped all would be completed IN DORA HWY & 6TH ST. by the end of the week depending upon weather conditions. PARKS Town Manager Marshall reported that inasmuch as funds had been approved in the new budget for the fiscal year 1971-72, WALK & DONT WALK SIGNS to modify the traffic control signals at Washington Avenue and TO BE ORDERED Main Street intersection, a purchase order would be placed for Walk and Dont Walk signals shortly for installation. 0 n motion of Councilman Frye, seconded by Councilman ST. COMM. TO STUDY Ratcliff, and carried, it was asked that the Street Committee DOUBLE LINING study the possibility of parallel double lines being placed on BOB WHITE BLVD. Bob White Boulevard. ~ ~ ~,?~1 ~'_~ ~.'~_~!Ll July 6, 1971 - Town Manager Marshall recommended that the trailer • application of Hammer. R. Hawkins to place a trailer on Peach and Fourth ,Street, N.. W.., located in ,an M-1 zone, not be granted by reason of inadequate space. There was some discussion relative to this TEMPS PERMIT ISSUED TO being a hardship case inasmuch as Mrs. Hawkins is an invalid, and HOMER HAWKINS TO PLACE on motion of Councilman Frye, that this was in an M-1 zone, and it TRAILER IN M-1 Zone being a hardship case, moved that a temporary permit be granted, limited to one year, at which time Council will review same.
