OFFICER FOR MEETING Councilman Macgill moved the approval of Mr. Aust as presiding officer Minutes of the regular meeting of the Pulaski Town The Clerk stated that she had been advised that Mayor Edens 1 for the meeting, which motion was seconded by Councilman White, and carried. The minutes of the regular meeting of December 16, 1969 1 were approved as recorded. Mrs. Eva Kreidell gave a report on the dance held TEEN DANCE EVA KREIDELL recently at the Armory by the Teen Social Group, and thanked Council ARMORY for its consideration. Mrs. Bascom Kanode, who operates the Monticello Club, complained about the article in the Southwest Times in which it was MRS. KANODE quoted that the "primary reason" for Council's refusal to approve COMPLAINS OF PRESS ART. the application of the Teen Social Group to meet and hold dances in an area RE: MONTICELLO CLUB in the Monticello Club building was because beer was being sold in the same building. She was advised that this was not the "primary reason" for the refusal, but that other aspects were considered to be the reason for. Council's suggestion that another place be secured. Mrs. Kanode stated that if teen-agers drink beer, they would not be purchasing it from her. 1 Council - Jan. 6, 1970 Mr. R. M. Alexander questioned the Town charging the Teen Social Group a fee of $75.00 for the use of the Armory, and he was advised that because of federal funds were used in the construction of the Armory, and because of the rules and regulations set out by the R.M. Armory Board for its operation, exceptions could not be made for charging ALEXANDER fees. COMPLAINTS Mr. Alexander then complained of the manner in which the Town had plowed the street on which he lived during the recent heavy snow storm. Mr. Alexander also advised that storm drains were stopped up on Route 11. Mr. Obel Ratcliff, a Pulaski Realtor, advised that because of the high rate of interest being charged prospective builders at this REALTOR ASKS DELAY time (8-1/2%), suggested that Council might help the Developer by de- IN ENFORCING SUBDIV, laying the enf orcement of the Town's ordinance requiring the developer DEVELOPERS TO PLACE of subdivisions to place concrete curb and gutter in new subdivisions. CURB & GUTTER No action was taken on this. There were no Committee reports. A letter from the New River Valley Emergency Squad was NO COMMENT read to Council by Town Manager .Marshall, in which letter it was asked RE: that Council oppose the Resolution of the Pulaski Chamber of Commerce CO .RESOL . ON RESCUE relative to the consolidation of the two local rescue squads. Council SQDS . deferred any comment on this request until a report could be made by its representative, Mr. Frye. CONSIDERATION Council postponed any action or consideration relative VA. MUN. LEAGUE LETTER to a letter received from the Virginia Municipal League regarding a DELAYED matter to come up in the 1970 General Assembly, until such time as a full Council is present. As a matter of inf ormation, Town Manager Marshall gave a comprehensive report of the activities of the Fire Department for the REPORT OF year 1969, citing the Pulaski Furniture and the Apartment Complex on FIRE DEPT. ACTIVITIES Alum Spring Road as being the outstanding fire losses, otherwise it was felt 1969 was a very good year. `C"T'~~~ WORK ON GARBAGE SURVEY STILL GOING ON Jan. 6, 1970 Town Manager Marshall also reported that work is continuing on the garbage collection survey and it was hoped to have some inf orma- ti on in the hands of the Council in the not too distant future. At 7:30 P. M. Councilman House moved, in view of thefe being no further business, that Council adjourn. The motion was seconded by Councilman Graham, and carried.
