HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-11-67r~ ~.~~~~ Minutes of a called meeting of the Pulaski Town Council, held at 4:30 P. M. Tuesday, April 11, 1967, in the Municipal office. There were present; Mayor C. V. Jackson,~presiding Councilman: W. S. Cummings, T. J. McCarthy, C. B. Gallimore, Rudolph Farmer, H. H. Eggert, 5. G. Frye, Raymond F. Ratcliffe Glen K. Aust Also present; Town Manager: Evan Norton Clerk: Gladys R. Dalton Town Attorney: Garnett S. Moore Visitors: Jane Graham, Southwest Times reporter Paul Dellinger, Roanoke Times reporter Tom Cassell, WPUV Radio The invocation was Given by Councilman Ratcliff. Mayor Jackson said the meeting had been called principally to discuss a personnel matter. Town Manager Norton read the letter of resignation of R. Lloyd Mathews, Director of Public Works, who asked that his resignation become effective April 17th. Mr. Norton RESIGNATION OF stated that Mr. Elmer Holyfield, who has been with the Town for R. LLOYD MATHEt;IS.almost a year, had handled his job very well and is capable to MR. E. HOLYFIELD IS NEW DIRECTOR take on a job and get it done. Mr. Norton recommended that Mr. OF PUBLIC WORKS. Holyfield. be employed as Director of Public lrlorks at his present salary of X6,000.00 a ,year until the budget for the next fiscal year is considered. Councilman Aust moved that Council accept the resignation of Mr. Mathews with regret, and that a letter be written to Mr. Mathews commending him for his loyalty and work extended to the town beyond his normal duties, and the~t he will be greatly missed by the town. The motion was seconded by CouhciJsnan Ratcliff, and carried. Councilman Frye moved that Mr. Holyfield be employed as MR. H. C. JACKSON Director of Public Works, effective April 15th, which motion was WILL BE ON HAND TO GIVE ASSISTANCFSeconded by Councilman Gallimore, and carried. Mr. Norton advised that March 1st a registered letter was forwarded to Mr. Ginsburg requesting a definite answer and that the notice of Mr. Ginsburg having received this letter on_March 9th had been received. The .fact that Council has the right to condemn this property was discussed, but Attorney Moore felt that any further discussion of condemnation should be in executive session.
