Jackson, presiding. Councilmen: Glen K. Aust, H. H. Eggert, W. x. Larson, W. S. Cummings, F. L. Carrico Absent: Rudolph Farmer, T. J. McCarthy, C. B. Gallimore Also present: Town Manager: T. B. Noland Clerk: Gladys R. Dalton Dir. of Recreation Ned Bane Visitors: Midge Woodard, Southwest Times .reporter The invocation was given by Councilman Carrico. Mayor Jackson advised that the special meeting had been tailed to consider the possibility of the Town sponsoring a team in the Appalachian Baseball League for the coming season, and, if so, SPECIAL MEETING to consider sending a representative of the Town to the Ft. Lauderdale TO CONSIDER TOWN SPONSORING Florida Professional Baseball League meeting to be held over the wee- BASEBALL LEAGUE end, at which time it would be decided how many teams and which mayor 1 league teams would make up the Appalachian League, & other pertinent matters. Recreational Director Ned Bane explained to Council that the only expense for which the Town would be liable would be to furnish and maintain the ball park, and that the Town has to maintain the park during the summer anyway. He further explained that the Town would receive all the gate receipts on the two "booster" nights and half the gate receipts on two other nights, with the Town NED BANE EXPLAINS receiving all the proceeds from the concession stand for all home FRANCHISE games. He stated that if the Town decided to try to secure a franchise and is successful in obtaining same, there would be either thirty or thirty-five home games, and for the first thirty days of the season there would be thirty ball players here and for the remainder of the season there would be twenty players, each drawing a minimum salary of $500.00 a month. Mr. Bane stated before pulaski could qualify for a team five hundred books of tickets at $10.00 each must be sold, and he suggested that assistance in this phase of the project be solicited from the Chamber of Commerce and Merchants Council.
