The minutes of the regular meeting of December 21st were
approved as recorded. (See minutes of 12/21/65 & Feb. 1, 1966)

they were present to hear the Sewer Committee's report on a petition
for sanitary sewer services to Case Knife Road. Mr. Carrico,
Chairman of the Sewer Committee, reported that his Committee had met
and considered seven pending sewer line pro3ects, as follows:

Mr~. Carrico advised that Council had approved the Byrd Drive pro3ect,
but that the remaining pro3ects had not been approved and as the siewer
fund was already overdrawn in the amount of X2100.00, the Committals
could see no possibility of building any of the lines unless the
finances committee appropriated funds for the installation. No action
was taken by Council.
A communication from the State Health Department concerniing

Committee, Councilman McCarthy reported that the Street Chairman had
viewed the South Jefferson entrance to Mr. Aust's property, and it was
the recommendation of the Committee that the street be opened to l~r.
Aust's property, under the supervision of the Director of Public Wbrks
and at the expense of Mr. Harry Aust. On motion of Councilman Ca~ico,
seconded by Councilman Gallimore, and carried, Councilman Glen Aunt
no voting, it was, RE90LVED, that the recommendation of the Street
Committee can be accepted.
Mr. McCarthy further reported that the Street Committee:

was directed to contact the Pulaski County officials to see if the
street could be widened in frost of the County School property on
Third .Street.
Council heard a report from H. C. Jackson concerning the
need for a storm drain in the area of the Presbyterian Church and
Fourth Street to follow the alley to Peak Creek. Mr. Jackson advised
that the culvert for this storm drain should certainly be placed in
Third Street before the Highway Department places plant mix on the

recommendation and report to Council at its next regular meeting.
ANNEXATION OF LAND Town AttorneT Garnett S. Moore reported to Council that the

completed, with the annexation becoming effective January 1, 1966.
Mayor Jackson advised that the committee appointed to discuss
with N & W officials the matter of N & W trains blocking the street

the situation. Mayor Jackson advised that the Railway Company is
willing to do all possible to correct this situation which causes
a traffics tie-up when the crossings gates are closed, or down.

Mayor Jackson advised Council that some policy should b~

Acting Town Manager Jackson advised Council of the greail
need at the Town Shops for lumber, and that according to a survey;
made by State Forester W. L. McBee of the Hogan Dam and Reservoir';
timberland area, consisting of approximately 1,700 acres, it was

discussion of this report and request from Mr. Jackson to cut this timber
for town use, Councilman Aust moved that the Director of Public Wclrks
should contact a sawmill operator and get an estimate of the cost
of such an operation and report back to Council. This motion was
seconded by Councilman McCarthy, and carried.
Mayor Jackson reported on his attendance of a recent

cooperation of all citizens in the support of this project.
Councilman Carrico invited members of Council to attend :a
dinner meeting January 17 at the National Guard Armory to be giveq by
the Appalachian Power Company, at which time there would be a speaker
and discussion to follow on the recent northeastern blackout.

On motion of Councilman Carrico, seconded by Councihaian
Gallimore, and carried, it was, RESOLVED that Council go into
executive session.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned
at 6:00 P. M.
