Jackson, presiding. Councilmen: C. B. Gallimore, W. A. Larson, T. J. McCarthy S. Cummings, Billy B. Flint, Eugene L. Nuckol$ Absent: Glen K. Aust and F. L. Haken, Karres Construction Company Irvin Hall. The invocation was given by Councilman Flint. The minutes of the .regular meeting of April 22nd were approv^,A. Miss Margaret Brewer, re-zresenti ng the Pulaski Woman' S Club appeared before Council and reoueste? that Council adopt an ordinance to prohibit persons from throwing paper, pop bottles and beer cans in th^ streets and on rrivate vards. ?Lz s Brewer also MISS BREWER suggested that if local industries would .lace receptacles around COMPLAINS OF TRASH their plants she believed their employes •could cooperate and help BEING THROWN ON TOWN STS. keep their plant sites clean. Mayor Jackson advised Miss Brewer that & SUGGESTS ORDINANCE a campaign was being organized to help keep Pulaski clean and that the civic nroups would be asked to serve cn a committee for this purpose. Mayor Jackson also thanked Miss Brewer for coming and for the interest of the Woman's Club in this worthwhile endeavor. Mr. Phil Sadler appeared on behal-f of Trvin Hall, a taxicab driver who had been charged with assault ^n a passenger in his cab, and TOWN MGR. TO stated that the Grand Jury of the Circuit Court had returned the w,?rrant LOOK INTO POLICY OF as "not a true bill", and requested the Mr. Hall's rights to operate a RESTORING RIGHTS TO taxicab be restored. After a discussion of this matter, during which OPERATEXI TAXICAB TO Chief of Police Comer was called in, Council advised that the matter MR. Mr. Sadler advised that the sixty days which Council had granted Mrs. Fdythe Harlow to get her taxi business back in opera- tion had expired, and on behalf of the taxicab operators present, asked Council to consider reducing the number of cabs to twenty- five as other operators go out of business - the number now in operation being less than thirty. Councilman Nuckol.s moved that the request be referred to the Police Committee for investigation and report to Council; that the Police Committee give notire to the taxicab owners to appear at the Council meeting if they so desire. This motion was seconded by Councilman McCarthy, and carried unanimously. Mr. Sadler suggested that the Police Committee make a study of the taxi situation; take a look at the records of their operations and see if they can come up with a suggestion to relieve the situation as they cannot make a decent living at the present taxi rates. It was agreed by Council that the Police Committee would also make this study and would include same in their report to the Council. Mr. Sadler presented Nr. T^T. Marion Palmer, who repre- sents City Cable company of Rogersville, Tennessee, and requested Council to consider the adoption of an ordinance allowing this Cable company to install cable television within the corporate limits. It was brought out in the discussion that this is a growing business and would mean a full --time office in Pulaski. Mr. Palmer stated his company would have to make arrangements with the local utility companies to use their poles for their lines; that a X10.00 hook-up fee would be charged, plus th.R5 per month for cable service. On motion of Councilman Flint, seconded by Councilman Cummings, and carried, it was, RFSOLVFD, that the matter be referred to the Ordinance Committee. Mr. M. J. Haken of the Karres Construction Company -?rrVr;^rcd before Council and advised that it had been found that an V" water main was approximately six inches over on the property being developed by Karres for lease to the A & P Grocery Company, which property is now being developed into a new shopping center L, Counc1_ mins. contd. May 5, 196), on Fifth Street and that contact with the Coleman Furniture Corperation resulted in a, letter from that, company to the effect that the hy9rants and mains in that, area were furnished and installed by the Tcwn of as a covenant in the agreement to yet the origi nal founders of Coleman Furniture Corporation to build tl,e plant in Pul.aski, and were the responsibility of the Town. May 5, 1961 TAayer Jackson reported that after negotiations failed between the Town of Dublin and the Citv of Radford for supplying water to the Town of Dublin, because of economical reasons, the officials of the Town of Dublin and t,,r. Town of °ula.ski had met several times to discuss further the possibility of l ulaski furnishing Dublin with water; that the Councils of the two towns met recently at the Dank of Dublin and ent-red 4nto a tentative agreement whereby the Town of Pulaski Will furnish the Town of T eeJt� Cummings, and carried unanimously.
