There were present: Vic e-Mayor S. G. Frye, presiding in the absence of Mayor Edens Councilmen: Glen K. Aust, William A. 1Touse, Mason A. Vaughan, Raymond F. Ratcliff, Arthur L. Meadows, J. L. Congrove Absent: Councilman Andrew L. Graham Also present: Town Manager: J. E. Marshall Clerk: Wendy Damron, acting in the absence of Gladys R. Dalton, ~ lerk Visitors: Bonni McKeown and Kathleen McIntyre, Southwest Times Debora Grace, WBLB Radio Station Jane Graham, WP1N Radio Station The invocation was given by Councilman Meadows. WAIVER OF NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING We, the undersignedy duly elected members of the Council of the Town of Pulaski, hereby waive notice of a Special Meeting of said Council, at 4:00 P, M. on the 1st day of August, 1973, called by Mayor C. Robert Edens for the purpose of considering applications for the position of Chief of Police, with possible appointment, and any other items that may legally be brought before the Council, WITNESS our si natures this ~ g ~_" day of July, 1973, { (,, ~f~ ,~' ~_ 1 ~~ . 4 e e a ~~ W;. P~' ~'¢,k m,~ August 1, 1973 Vice-Mayor Frye stated that the purpose of the meeting was to consider the applications for the Chief of Police and the recommenda- tions of the Police Committee. Upon the motion of Councilman Aust, seconded by Council- man Meadows, Council went into Executive Session. At 4:10 P. M. Council returned to Regular Session upon the motion of Councilman Aust. Motion was seconded by Council- man Ratcliff, and carried. Councilman Vaughan, Chairman of the Police Committee, SPECIAL MEETING reported that after going through all the applications received H . B . CHILDRESS APPO INTED f or-the position of Chief of Police, it was the recommendation CHIEF OF POLICE of the Police Committee that Lieutenant H. B. Childress be promoted to the job of Chief of Police. to fill the office until June 30, 1974, and so moved. Motion was seconded by Councilman Aust. An amendment was made to the motion by Councilman Ratcliff, AMENDMENT ZO ND TIO N that this action he effective August 1, 1973, The amendment was accepted, and motion with amendment was carried. Town Manager Marshall was instructed to write the people who sent applications and thank them. At 4:15 P. M. Vice-Mayor asked if there was any further business to come bef ore the Council, There being none, Council- man Aust moved, seconded by Councilman House, that the meeting be adjourned.
