Council. Minutes Pulaski, Virginia, March 4, 1 7
The Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia met in
regular session in the Council Chamber of the Municipal buil
at 7:30 P. M., IVtarch 4, 1947.
PRES-ENT There were present; Mayor A. T. Eskridge, presiding
Lottie R. Runion, clerk; A. W. Gatewood, director of public
B. C. Taylor, treasurer; L.S. Boothe, chief of police, and
Councilmen: T. F.Wirt, C. V. Jackson, Howard R. Imboden, W. ;
White, I. R. Carper, W. D. Aust and G. C. Hall. Absent; F. A
Seagle.
MINUTES The minutes of .the regular meeting held on Februar;
18, 1 947 were read and approved.
HILLS& The regular bills and payrolls for the month of
PAYROLLS
February were read, approved: and ordered :: paid. Said
bills are given at the conclusion of these minutes.
REPORT A report of the Health Department on inspections
HEALTH for the month of February
DEPT. of restaurants,` showing the names of establishments and
proprietors and Grades was submitted and read.
BUILDING The following building permits, coming vaithin the

requirements of the ordinance were granted; To T. W. Kersey
for one-story metal covered shop building 24~ x 60~ on the no
side of Clark Street, West Pulaski, to cost500.00;
TEMPORARY Hensel R. Stout was granted a permit for one-stor

ROOM frame boiler room, covered with sheet rock on the north .side
of 2nd St. N. E., in rear of H. E. Jones store building, to

be used in connection with proposed cleaning and pressing
establishment, to cost ~I00.00~ with the stipulation that a
permanent fireproof s tructure b e erected by P~ZaY 15, 1 947.
PETITION A petition was presented b y certain residents of
PEIRCE AVE.
Peirce Avenue and the Ball Park area, asking; that the Council
do something about the dust before the opening of the basebal:
season, and further stating they would like these roads hard-
surfaced as quickly as possibl e. On motion of W. F. White,
seconded by Howard R. Imboden and unanimously passed, the Cour
authorized that the said streets be oiled.

by the Council in the matter.
PARKING On motion of W. F. White, seconded by C. V.
METER
RECEIPTS Jackson and unanimously passed, the treasurer was granted permission
& POLICE
FINES to give weekly reports to the Southwest,~!'imes on receipts
from parking meters -and police fines, the request for this
information having been made by the Southwest Times reporter.
LETTER A letter addressed to the Mayor and Council

DICI{ERSON from T. W.Dickerson of 5th Street and South Jefferson Avenue
relative to proposed sewer on 5th street and Hillside
Terrace was read, with~no action taken by the Councill
SKEDULE The director of public works submitted to the ~'
Charges
Calfee Council a suggested skedule of charges for use of Calfee
Field
Field for users not covered by regular contract. After con-
sideration, on motion of Howard R. Imboden, seconded by C.
V. Jackson and unanimously passed, the skedule was adopted
as follows;
For Night Use - including use of lights, current,
cleaning up park, general and overall maintenance and
upkeep ---- Per Game ----------------------------X35.00.
For Day Use- where admissions are charged per
game or day, covering cleaning up park, re-conditioning,
general overall maintenance ------------------- X10.00.
It was agreed that the Pulaski Counts, Inc .
would furnish a competent man to attend all night games
and-that he be vested with authority to cut off lights
in case of rain in order to protect the lighting system.
It was agreed that. the Town of Pulaski would
collect the fees charged for lights, etc., and turn same
over to the Pulaski Counts, Inc., during the perit~d
covered by their lease of the field.

BELLEVIEV In the matter of request stir sewer on Belleview
AVE
SEWER Avenue, the director of public works reported that he had
contacted Mr. J. W. Slaughter who had been negotiating for
his son and/~r. Wilkerson, parties who had built recently
on Belleview Avenue, and had advised him if they had any
proposition to submit to t~~e Council, pertaining to installs
of the sewer in that section, to do so. Mr.Slaughter advise
that he had contacted the owners of the lots facing on Belle
view Ave., and lying between 5th and 2nd streets, S. W., and
that they had not appeared to be interested to the extent of
contributing toward the sewer installation, and stated that
his son would probably go ahead and put in a septic tank.
AIRPORT With reference to closing up the deals for acreage
for the Airport, the director of publ ie works reported that
he had been unable to do anything about this, due to the abs
of Mr. Fred N. Cole, from town.
In the matter of petition presented at the previous

SOURCES TNith reference to new sources of revenue, T. F. Wirt
.REVENUE chairman of the finance committee submitted a list of suggest
license fees, stating he would have a more complete report
for the next meeting of the Council.
ADJOURN- There being; no further business, the Council adjourn
