Kevin Byrd, Executive Director of the New River Valley Planning District Commission, addressed Council summarizing the program. He advised that the Town's cost to participate in the grant was $250. He asked if Council was still interested in participating in the program. Councilman Goodman moved to direct staff to move $250 from the Unappropriated Fund Balance to cover the cost for the Town to participate in the. Mapping and Flood grant program and also agree to the Participation Agreement. Councilman Clark seconded the motion and carried on the following recorded vote: Heather L. Steele -Aye Gregory C. East -Aye David L. Clark -Aye H. M. Kidd -Aye Joseph K. Goodman -Aye James A. Radcliffe -Aye The next item on the agenda was a presentation from Bob Strenz regarding a caboose. Mr. Strenz advised that he had purchased a caboose from a government website with the intent of donating the caboose to the Town. His thought was that the caboose could be used for a room for people to stay overnight in conjunction with the Trail and the Museum. In the meantime, he had been trying to figure out how much it would cost to transport it from Tazewell County to the Town. He advised that preliminarily, it looked like it could cost from $5,000 to $10,000. He distributed some pictures of the caboose and described its condition. He advised that he and his wife would personally decorate the caboose. He inquired whether the Town would be interested in the idea and be willing to appropriate some money to transport it to the Town. Following extensive discussion, Council advised that they would give an answer to Mr. Strenz by May 21 At 8:30 p.m., there being no further business, Council adjourned on motion by Councilman Kidd, seconded by Councilman Goodman and carried on voice vote.
