Ordinance Amending the Use of Paid and Unpaid Leave
For
Any Portion of a Family/Medical Leave Event
WHEREAS, the administration has determined that an amendment to the Personnel Manual is necessary
regarding the use of paid and unpaid leave in the event of a family/medical event; and,
WHEREAS, the recommendation has been made to the Town Council that any time, including paid vacation
or other forms of leave time accrued in excess of maximum accruable hours, be utilized by the employee
first before sick leave is used; and,
WHEREAS, an additional amendment to the Personnel Manual is necessary to both further clarify and
provide further detail on the Town's policy regarding use of paid/unpaid leave for a family/medical leave
event;
NOW, THEREFORE be it ORDAINED by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia sitting in regular
session this 6th day of October 2015, that the first paragraph of the section entitled "Use of Paid and Unpaid
Leave" on page 6-8 of the Personnel Manual be amended to read as follows:
"An employee will be required to use accrued paid leave (including paid vacation, sick leave,
compensatory time and workers' compensation) for any part of a family/medical leave. When

paid leave in excess of maximum accruable hours for the particular type of leave as
established in this manual prior to utilizing sick leave."
FURTHER ORDAINED, that this ordinance supersedes and renders null and void Ordinance 2015-16.
