Ordinance Amending the Zoning Regulations
To Incorporate a Working Definition of the Term "Junk"
WHEREAS, citizen complaints concerning vehicles stored close to or in residential areas
have become a concern of the Town Council; and,
WHEREAS, the lack of a definition for the term "junk", as used in the Town's zoning
regulations in connection with automotive-based land uses, has led to difficulties in
interpreting and enforcing provisions regarding these uses; and,
WHEREAS, a suitable definition for the term "junk" was proposed using the
Commonwealth's definition as found in §38.2-804 of the Code of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission and the Town Council conducted duly noticed
public hearings on February 8, 2016 and March 1, 2016 respectively, in which the
comments of the public were heard and solicited, to consider including the
Commonwealth's definition in the Town's zoning regulations;
NOW, THEREFORE be it ORDAINED by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski,
Virginia, sitting in regular session this 15th day of March 2016, that Section 1102
"Definitions" of the Zoning Regulations of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia be amended to
include the following definition as set forth below:
"Junk" means old or scrap copper, brass, rope, rags, batteries, paper,
trash, rubber, debris, or waste; junked, dismantled, or wrecked
automobiles or parts thereof; and old or scrap iron, steel, or other ferrous
or nonferrous material."
This ordinance is effective upon adoption and is hereby adopted this 15th day of March
2016 by the duly recorded vote of the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia as
follows:
