Resolution Supporting "Small Business Saturday"
In Recognition of the Value of Locally Owned Businesses
WHEREAS, small businesses are a vital part of the economies of the United States and
the Commonwealth of Virginia accounting for a majority of all business nationally and
employing half of the Commonwealth's private sector workforce; and,
WHEREAS, small businesses have provided the majority of new jobs created nationwide
and provided more than 50,000 new jobs within the Commonwealth in 2012; and,
WHEREAS, the vast majority of consumers in the United States agree that small business
success: is important to the health of the nation's economy; contributes significantly to
local communities by creating employment and generating local tax revenues; and that
supporting locally owned small businesses is extremely important to the community's
welfare;
NOW, THEREFORE be it RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski,
Virginia sitting in regular session this 4th day of November 2015 that, November 28, 2015
is hereby designated as "Small Business Saturday",
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town Council supports efforts to encourage
consumers to shop locally and to contribute to a nationwide effort to increase awareness of
the value of locally owned small businesses and the impact of local owned small
businesses on the nation, the Commonwealth, and the Town of Pulaski.
This resolution is effective upon adoption and is hereby adopted this 4th day of November
2015 by the duly recorded vote of the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski as follows:
