RESOLUTION 98-6
ENDORSING PROMPT DEVELOPMENT
OF THE NEW RIVER TRAIL STATE PARK
EXTENSION PROJECT
WHEREAS, the Virginia General Assembly placed a bond issue on the November 3, 1992
statewide ballot providing $95 million for the renovation, expansion and protection of parks
and natural resources throughout the Commonwealth; and,
WHEREAS, the bond issue included $190,000 for land acquisition and construction of an
extension of the New River Trail State Park, from its current terminus near the eastern
corporate limits of the Town, to the historic Pulaski Railway Station in downtown Pulaski; and,

WHEREAS, the Town of Pulaski applied for and was granted an allocation of $180,000 to
supplement the trail development under the Federal Intermodel Surface Transportation Act,
WHEREAS, the extension of the State Park will be of much recreational and economic benefit
to the Town, its citizens and visitors; and,
WHEREAS, the bond issue was overwhelmingly supported and approved by Virginia voters.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski,
Virginia, sitting in regular session on February 17, 1998, that:
SECTION 1. The Town Council previously endorsed and supported the bond passage by
Resolution No. 92-23 on October 6, 1992. The Town has since looked forward to completion of
this project and anticipated the distinction of having a Virginia State Park in its historic
downtown.
SECTION 2. The Town Council respectfully requests the Virginia Department of
Conservation and Recreation to begin development and construction of the trail extension
project, and work towards completion as soon as possible and respectfully requests an updated
schedule from the Department outlining the steps to accomplish this project.
SECTION 3. This resolution is effective upon adoption and is hereby adopted this 17th day of
February 1998, by recorded vote of Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia, as follows:
