HomeMy WebLinkAbout98-09• Resolution 98-9 A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE NEW RIVER VALLEY BIKEWAY/WALKWAY PLAN WHEREAS, the New River Valley Planning District Commission has submitted a comprehensive plan for bikeways and walkways in the New River Valley; and WHEREAS, the plan outlines bike routes within the Town of Pulaski as being roads designated for bike lanes as follows: 1. From the intersection of Route 636 (Alum Spring Road) and Route 11 north to the corporate limits of the Town; 2. Route 11 (Washington Avenue) from the northernmost corporate limits through the downtown to the southern most limit; 3. Route 738 (Randolph Avenue) and Route 99 from the intersection of Commerce Street north to the town corporate limits 4. Commerce Avenue from the Railroad Passenger Station west to the intersection with Randolph Avenue. 5. Route 611 (Bob White Boulevard) from the corporate limits to the intersection of Route 99 and Route 611. • WHEREAS, the plan outlines a shared road designation within the Town of Pulaski as being Altoona Road from Randolph Avenue, west to the town corporate limits and Route 710 (Mt. Olivet Road);and WHEREAS, after advertisement required by law, the Planning Commission held a public hearing February 9, 1998 and recommended approval of a resolution of support for the New River Valley Bikeway/Walkway Plan and an amendment to the plan creating a bike lane from the intersection of Route 611 and Route 99 to the Town limits to link with the New River Trail and such trail extensions into the Town of Pulaski as are created; and WHEREAS, after a public hearing as required by law, the Town Council held a public hearing on March 17, 1998; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia sitting in regular session March 17, 1998, that; Section 1. The Council supports the general concept of the New River Bikeway/Walkwayplan as itpertains to the Town of Pulaski. Section 2. The Council amends the plan for the Town of Pulaski to include a bike lane from the intersection of Route 611 and Route 99 towards Interstate 81 that will link the • bikeway/walkway with the New River Trail and such extensions of the trail into the Town that shall be created. • This resolution is effective upon its adoption, and is adopted the 17~` day of March, 1998, by recorded vote of the Town Council as follows: James M.
