RESOLUTION 99-17
A RESOLUTION OF INTENT TO PARTICIPATE
IN THE PURCHASE OF HEALTH INSURANCE THROUGH
THE NEW RIVER VALLEY CONSORTIUM SUBJECT TO REVIEW
AND FINAL APPROVAL BY ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN COUNCIL
WHEREAS, the Town Council authorized participation with other surrounding localities to
investigate the possibility of purchasing health insurance as part of a larger group referred to as
the New River Valley Consortium to obtain the advantages of economies of scale and better
benefits for Town employees; and
WHEREAS, after considering the possible benefits to purchasing insurance through the
Consortium, the Council has found that the Preferred Provider Option offered through the
Consortium by Aetna/L7.S. Healthcare offered the Town a more economical approach to
providing Town employees with quality health insurance;
NOW THEREFORE, be it RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia,
sitting in regular session on Apri16, 1999, that the Town Council intends to purchase health
insurance for its employees through the New River Valley Consortium utilizing the Preferred
• Provider Option as proposed by Aetna/LT.S. Healthcare, subject to review and final approval by
ordinance, as to the terms of medical services offered to the Town and the formation of a Joint
Powers Authority, by the Town Council.
This resolution is effective upon adoption and is adopted by recorded vote of the Town Council
of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia on this 6~h day of April 1999 as follows:
