HomeMy WebLinkAbout99-18RESOLUTION 99-18 • • A RESOLUTION OF INTENT TO PARTICIPATE IN A JOINT POWERS AGREEMENT WITH THE MEMBERS OF THE NEW RIVER VALLEY CONSORTIUM AND TO DESIGNATE THE VIRGINIA MUNICIPAL LEAGUE AS ADMINISTRATOR FOR THE CONSORTIUM SUBJECT TO REVIEW AND FINAL APPROVAL BY ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN COUNCIL WHEREAS, the Town Council resolved that the Town should investigate participation in a group purchase of health insurance with surrounding localities; and WHEREAS, the Council has further resolved to purchase such insurance through the New River Valley Consortium; and WHEREAS, the necessity has arisen for an administrative body to exercise oversight and assistance to members of the consortium; and WHEREAS, the Virginia Municipal League has offered to pay the legal fees in setting up a Joint Powers Agreement and to render administrative assistance to consortium members at a proposed rate ofone-eighth of one percent of the entire consortium's members medical, dental, and vision premiums; and WHEREAS, under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Virginia Municipal League is considered an instrumentality of local government and may undertake such activities; NOW, THEREFORE, be it RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia, sitting in regular session on Apri16, 1999, that the Town of Pulaski intends to participate in a Joint Powers Agreement for the operation of the New River Health Consortium, with the Virginia Municipal League as administrator for the consortium, subject to review and final approval by ordinance of the Joint Powers Agreement , by the Town Council. This resolution is effective upon adoption and is adopted by recorded vote of the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia on this 6`h day of April 1999 as follows: James M. Neblett ~3~g W.
