~H3NORING
CALEB HURD
WHEREAS, Caleb Hurd has been selected as recipient for outstanding athletic achievement as
one of America's finest college and high school special teams football players for four seasons at
Virginia Tech and two at Pulaski County High School; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Hurd, in his early years, developed his athletic skills in the recreation programs
of the Town of Pulaski and Pulaski County, and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Hurd served as holder for field goals and extra points for his cousin, Shayne
Graham and Coach Joel Hicks at Pulaski County High School; and,
WHEREAS, While at Pulaski County High School Mr. Hurd earned four varsity letters in
baseball and two in football, was named All District catcher and pitcher his senior year at Pulaski
County High School and was a member of the National Honor Society; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Hurd was named to Sports Illustrated All American Team for "Special Teams
Players " as holder for Virginia Tech, lettering for four seasons, and was a key factor in the
• Hokies and Big East Conference record setting kicking operations; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Hurd helped lead Virginia Tech to an undefeated 1999 regular season and
number two national ranking, and four straight bowl appearances; and.
WHEREAS, Mr. Hurd has displayed outstanding poise and character making him one of the
most successful sports figures ever from Pulaski County.
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia,
sitting in regular session on February 1 S, 2000, that Town Council should and hereby does
commend Mr. Hurd on these outstanding athletic achievements.
This resolution is effective upon adoption and is adopted by duly recorded vote of the Town
Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia on this 15m day of February, 2000, as follows:
