f~~7TEREAS, John A.' Johnston faithfully and honorably served the Town ofPulaslri on
Town Council from July, 1976 to June, 19gg and from May, 1994 to February, 1997and as
Mayor from February, 1997 to June 20~OI D,• and,
WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Johnston served on various committees, includrr~g Public
Utilities, Finance, Ordinance, Public Safety, Human Resources, and Streets m the capacity
of Chairman and committee member; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Johnston also served on the Peppers Ferry Regional Wastewater
Treatment Authority from 1979 to the present; and,
WHEREAS, Duringhis over Ig years ofservice, Dr. Johnston dealt capably with
numerous complex issues and carried out his civic duties in a highly responsible manner;
and,
[WHEREAS, Dr. Johnston served the Town with dedication to the concepts ofef~`ective and
representative democratic local government and this work merited the respect and
confidence of Town Council, Town employees, and the community; and,
• WHEREAS, Dr. Johnston served all citizens of the Town with fairness, honesty, integrity,
professionalism, kindness and respect.
NOW THEREFORE, be itresolved by the Town Council ofthe Town ofPulasdrr;
Virginia, sitting rn regular session on June 20, 2000, that the Town Council should and
hereby recognizes the significant and lasting contributions ofDr. Johnston to the citizens of
the Town ofPulasdri and commends him for his dedication and public service.
This resolution is ef!ectlve upon adoption and is adopted by recorded vote ofthe Town
Council of the Town ofPulaskt; Virginia, on this 20`L day of June, 200 as follows:
