A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN THE VIRGINIA MAIN STREET
• AFFILIATE PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the Virginia Main Street Program has been established in the Virginia Department of
Housing and Community Development to assist localities in developing public/private efforts to revitalize
their downtown commercial areas; and,
WHEREAS, Downtown Pulaski, Inc. (DPI) membership has expired.
WHEREAS, the Town of Pulaski desires to participate in the Virginia Main Street Affiliate Program and
presently is a major funding source to DPI, Inc.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia:
Section 1. That the Town of Pulaski and DPI apply to participate in the 2001 Virginia Main Street
Affiliate Program using the Main Street Approach and with emphasis to downtown and
historic district preservation and economic development.
Section 2. That the Town of Pulaski meets the population criteria and that the proposed Main Street
district contains at least 50 commercial enterprises and 70 commercial structures;
Section 3. That the Town of Pulaski will continue to work with DPI on strengthening abroad-based
organization dedicated to the revitalization and on-going management of the designated
Main Street district;
• Section 4. That the Town of Pulaski & DPI will actively work toward building public and private
sector financial support and funding a sustainable and appropriate program budget;
Section 5. That the Town of Pulaski and DPI will actively work toward building community support
and involvement in the Main Street effort.
Section 6. The Town of Pulaski and DPI, Inc. understand that participation as an Affiliate
Community for a year will enable the Town and DPI to prepare a request for full Main
Street status.
Section 7. That DPI is designated as the Main Street organization and will serve as the local
downtown revitalization organization and assist in the submission of the reinstatement
application.
This Resolution is effective upon adoption and is adopted by recorded vote of the Town Council of the
Town of Pulaski, Virginia on this 2nd day of October, 2001 as follows:
