HomeMy WebLinkAbout92-12 RESOLUTION N0. 92-12 SUPPORTING THE AUTHORIZATION AND DESIGNATION OF THE NEW RIVER VALLEY PLANNING DISTRICT AS AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT WHEREAS, improved economic conditions, including job generation, jobs diversification, and reduced unemployment, continues to be a goal of the New River Valley Planning District; and WHEREAS, the economic condition of the jurisdictions which make up the New River Valley Planning District has led to the designation of two re-development areas; and WHEREAS, the Economic Development Administration provides for multi-jurisdictional re-development areas to be authorized and designated as Economic Development Districts to provide for coordinated economic development planning; and WHEREAS, the New River Valley Planning District Board of Commissioners, with elected officials from all member localities • present, unanimously agreed to pursue designation of the Planning District as an Economic Development District to assist member localities in addressing their economic needs; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Pulaski Town Council does hereby support the authorization and designation of the New River Valley Planning District as an Economic Development District; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council does urge the Governor to request and support the authorization and designation of the New River Valley Planning District as an Economic Development District to provide economic development planning for the counties of Giles, Floyd, Pulaski, and Montgomery; the City of Radford; and the towns of Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and Pulaski. This resolution is effective upon adoption and is adopted this 16th day of June, 1992, by recorded vote of the Pulaski Town Council as follows: Charles D. Crispin - Aye Andrew L. Graham _ Aye J. R.
