RESOLUTION HONORING E.J. WILLIAMS
WHEREAS, E.J. Williams has retired as Police Chief effective May 1, 1994 after almost 21 years of
services with the Pulaski Police Department;
WHEREAS, After E.J. Williams was hired as a police officer by the Town in May 1973, he worked his
way through the ranks as follows:

April 1974
July 1974
September 1976
January 1978
August 1983
December 1983
Corporal
Top Corporal
Sergeant
Lieutenant of Detectives
Top Lieutenant
Acting Chief of Police
Chief of Police
WHEREAS, during his tenure as Chief of Police, the Police Department developed and an Anti-Drug
program, Crime Prevention Program, Juvenile Intervention Program and many other safety related
initiatives;
WHEREAS, the Police Department and the Town of Pulaski also received numerous awards,
including the Chiefs Challenge, Special Olympics Award, Pedestrian Safety Award and the prestigious
Governor's Community Crime Prevention Award for the Town's very successful crime prevention
program; and
WHEREAS, E.J. Williams was instrumental in the change from .38 caliber revolvers to the Beretta
.40 caliber semi-automatic handguns, Police Department reorganization and other items that improved
efficiency, officer safety and service to the citizens; and
WHEREAS, EJ. Williams was admired for his honesty, integrity and his concern for all citizens in
the Town of Pulaski; and
NOW THEREFORE, Town Council hereby recognizes E.J. Williams for his almost 21 years of service
to the Town and for the vital role he played protecting and preserving the peace for all of our citizens.
Town Council also expresses its appreciation for his leadership and dedication
This resolution is adopted by recorded vote of the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia, on
this 21st day of June 1994 as follows:
