HomeMy WebLinkAbout94-27• RESOLUTION N0.94-27 Supporting the location of Disney's America theme park in southwest Virginia BE IT RESOLVED, by the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia, sitting in regular session on October 4, 1994, that it supports the location of Disney's America theme park in southwest Virginia. WHEREAS, the Disney Corporation is interested in constructing a theme park in Virginia entitled, "Disney's AmericaA; and WHEREAS, southwest Virginia offers a large potential audience as the theme park's clientele. The Blue Ridge Parkway and our interstate highways, which are within an easy day's drive of half of the country's population, would ensure a sufficient flow of tourists to sustain a facility; and WHEREAS, Disney's America would provide an unparalleled economic benefit to southwest Virginia and is expected to generate $47 million a year in tax revenue for Virginia; and WHEREAS, our tourism economy would be dramatically expanded through the location of Disney's America in our region. It would be a natural complement to southwest Virginia's present tourism promotion efforts; and i WHEREAS, southwest Virginia would welcome the high paying jobs and economic opportunities that the project would bring; and WHEREAS, the Town of Pulaski calls upon county boards of supervisors, city and town officials, economic development orgatuzations and interested citizens throughout southwest Virginia to demonstrate southwest Virginia's support for the location of the project in our region; and NOW THEREFORE, the Town of Pulaski will submit copies of this resolution to Disney Corporation_Chairman Michael Eisner, Senators Charles Robb and John Warner and Congressman Frederick Boucher to inform them of our strong support for this locating this project in southwest Virginia.
