HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-20-06This is an excerpt from the June 20, 2006 Town Council meeting. Mayor Wade moved on to HOME Consortium. Mr. Hawley advised that staff presented the HOME Consortium agreement at the last Council meeting. There were some questions from Council regarding how the Town could opt out of the Consortium if the need arose. He advised that he had included in the Council packet a copy of an e-mail from Ms. Whitaker with an answer. The agreement is for three years. It is an automatically renewing agreement, however, the Town would be notified in writing of their right to not participate prior to the renewal taking effect. Ms. Whitaker advised that HUD suggested that if the Town decided to withdraw from the program in the middle of the three year program, the Town could stop receiving an allocation of the Regional HOME funds for activities. The Town would essentially become non-active participants until the three year period was up and then the right to not participate could be invoked. Additionally, Mr. Hawley advised that staff had asked the County to include a representative from the Town to the Consortium as a Board Member. This was included in the Board of Supervisors packet for discussion at their next meeting. Councilman Penn moved to direct staff to join the HOME Consortium if a Town representative is appointed as a Board Member, seconded by Councilman Talbert and carried on the following recorded vote: Jeffrey S. Worrell - Aye Lane R. Penn. - Aye Dan Talbert, Jr. - Aye John T. Bolen - Aye Bettye H. Steger - Aye Joel B. Burchett,, Jr. - Aye
