M., June 10, 1948. .PRESENT There were present; Mayor A. T. Eskridge, presid- ing; Verna L. Dalton, Clerk; A. W. Gatewood, Director of Public .Works; Mrs. Lottie R. Runion, Treasurer; Roby K. Sutherland, Attorney, and Councilmen: T. F. Wirt, C. V. Jackson, Howard R. Imboden, I. R. Carper, W~. D. Aust, G. C. Hall and W. F. White. Absent: F. A. Seagle. MINUTES The minutes of the regular semi-monthly meeting held on May 18, 1948 were read and approved. REV. DAMS Reverend Emitt Davis, Pastor of the Church of God, REQUEST •appeared and requested permission to conduct religious ser- vices at First Street Park on Saturday afternoons beginning at Two o~clock. It was the consensus of Council that same would be permitted, provided such services interfered with no set program, and also, that the Pulaski Ministerial Assoc- . iation be contacted for permission to use benches, etc. :"O~y MANGR. An application of Mr, William Sprigman Coburn of 'APPLICATIC?N • Pearisburg, Virginia, for position as City Manager was pre- sented, and Mr. Coburn, who was present, spoke briefly of his experience and qualifications. The Mayor informed him that his application could be. received for future consider- ation, but that no definite commitments would be made bg the present Council. Said application is filed in the Town Files. DR.J.E.GREER Dr. J. E. Greer appeared before the Council, SEWER &EQ. requesting th® Councils consideration in the matter of • sewer service to his proposed hospital to be located South of Calfee Park. He stated that eight people.in that vicinity desired sewage service., and water service, if possible. Same being discussed at length, on motion of I. R. Carper, seconded ;~ 1~~: Council Minutes Contd. Pulaski, Virginia, June 10, x.948 by H. 8. Imboden and unanimously approved, the matter was referred to the Water and Sewer Committee for investigation, to report back to the Council. 4. DEFENSE 9 A. H. Wygal, Fire Chief, requested that some actio~i be BLDG. SPACE taken by the Council to prohibit the use of space in the Defdm se USAGE . Building for band practice by Pulaski High School, as same iri~ter- fered with the work of the Fire Department . On motion of T. '~'. Wirt, seconded by H. R. Imboden, and unanimously approved, the Mayor was authorized to notify Mr. Frank J. Critzer, Superintendent of County Schools, that the Town need the mentioned space, anti that the school board would not be permitted to use same any further for band classes. RANDOLPH Howard C. Jackson, Superintendent of the Water and AVENUE EXTENSION Sewer Departments, came before the Council, asking for inforz~,- tion as to whether the order covering water pipe and fixture~Ifor the Randolph ~ivenue Extension should be cancelled in view of ~~he ~a proposed work on Brook Avenue. 4 TO BE In executive session, upon much discussion, it was` CARRIED 0~ the sense of the Council that the order should not be cancel d, ~; s and that the pro3ect would be carried out as originally inten~.ed. LETTER In connection with the above matter, Councilman White HWY. DEPT. ~ ~~ RE. DEFER. read a letter to the Council which was sent to Mr. J. F. Wyso from A. H. Bell, Location and Design Engineer for the Depart 'nt of Highways, Commonwealth of Virginia, and stating that tha o- ~eet between the Highway Department and the City of Pulaski regard to Route No. 99 could be deferred for two years, if F deferrment was desired. 5 aid letter i s filed in the Town Fi1.~ES. METER On motion of T. F. Wirt, seconded by W. F. White arm PUR CHASE AUTH. unanimously approved, the Council authorized the purchase by Howard C. Jackson of six additional meters for water to be installed in various filling stations v~ thin the Town. BILLS & On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously passed, PAYROLLS the regular bills and payrolls for the month of May were approved and ordered paid, upon the reading thereof. Said bills are given at the conclusion of these minutes. On motion of T. F. Wirt, seconded by I. R. Pulaski, Virginia, June 10, 1948 TOV~T OF PULASKI MEMORANDUM OF ELECTION EXPENSE - June 8, 1948 TO BE PAID BY TOV~N OF PULASKI- Due to large vote and condition of Poll Books it was necessary for the Judges and three clerks to spend a part of tiro days in advance of the election in the preparation of a quaff iiled voters list, and for this we reco~anend an additional days service.
