SESSIDN (Special Session)
`lhe Council met in special session tonight at 7:$0
at the mayor's office.
Yx~SENT There were present: A. 1'. Eskridge, Mayor, presi~ing;
Lottie R. Runion, Clerk; A. ~a. Harman, Jr., Attorney, and
Councilmen: 0. P. Jordan, Jr., T. F. Wirt, Howard R, Imbod~n,
W. F. ~~hite, F. A. Seagle, I.R. Carper, W. D. Aust and G. ~.
Hall. Absent: None.
MILK The Mayor stated that the meeting had been called,

pursuant to action of the Council at its regular meeting
held on hugust 9th, to discuss the milk situation and to
determine whether or not it would be advisable to give the:
two distributors - the Buena Vista Farms and Farris Brothels
an opportunity to meet the requireKlients of the ordinance,
the two said dairies having been degraded from A Grade to (~ Grade
milk by the Health Department.

Julia gallon and Thos. C. Massie, representing the Buena ~'

during this period, and in some cases the results were very;
unsatisfactory, the bacteria count being unreasonalbly high.:;.
He explained that some of this could be due, partly, to
wcarcity of satisfactory labor and inability to secure badl.~

questioned by the Council, both stating that the existing
condition was due to lack of help and inability to secure
necessary materials and equipment to comply ~~tith the ordinance.

Both stated that they were doing all possible to
meet the requirements of the ordinance and to get back on A
grade milk, and ~el~ that improvements ~^rere being made.
Buena Vista Farms advised that they had been unable
as yet to get their C caps, and .~arris Brothers advised that
their's had been received, but they were delaying putting
them in use in order that both daries could start using
them at the same time - the health Department having
advertised in the local paper that C grade milk was being
distributed in the town under A caps, and that the ordinance
required them to substitute C caps for A caps.
Dr. Pope Dr. Pope was questioned regarding the quality of
C grade milk, and stated that it was not considered safe.

unable to furnish A grade milk due to inability to get
efficient help.

On further motion of F'. A.S eagle, seconded by

Hearing ~~. F. tim'hite and unanimously passed, the town attorney was
directed to write the State Milk Commission and ask them to
postpone the hearing scheduled for September 14, 1945, until
further notice from the Council.
