PRESENT There were present; Mayor A. T. Eskridge, presiding; Louie R. Runion, Clerk; h. Yd. Gatewood, Director of Public titiorks; Roby R. Sutherland, tittorney, and Councilmen: J.K. Harrison, 0. P. Jordan, Jr., L. E. YJhitesell, J. E. Bunts, F. A. Seagle, T. L. James, G. C. Hall and A. ~1. Bushong. Absent: None. iuiINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting held on August 3, 1943 were read and approved. BILLS & The regular bills and payrolls for the month of PAYROLLS August were audited, approved and ordered paid. Said bills are given at the conclusion of these minutes. M. C. Pierce submitted the police report for the 1 R~PORT month. of August, which was ordered filed. BUILDING One building permit, coming withir_ the requirements. PER'ITS of the ordinance was granted, subject to gove-rnmental~approval: To Mrs. Lamar Bassett for cinder block coal house on the north side of 4th Street, East Pulaski, corner of Walnut Ave. and 4th St., to cost X75.00- replacing an old frame structure torn down. BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Pulask#i 1 Virginia, that a tax of x:1.60 be levied on each X100.00 assessed value on all property, real and tangible personal,. for the year 1943, for the general purposes of the Town, in- cluding the pay of its officers, the working and keeping in repair of its streets, roads and bridges, and to pay the interest on its public debt, and to provide a sinking fund for the redemption of the same, and in addition thereto a poll tax of X1.80 is hereby levied on each male citizen of the Town over 21 years of age to be used in keeping its stre~~~ roads and bridges in repair. 4'~8 X20,000.00 1~~V~ BOHD INVEST- M ENT Council Minutes Contd. Pulaski,Va., September 7, 1943 On the recommendation of the Mayor, and on motion of J. K. Harrison, seconded by A. ~fl. Bushong and unanimously passed, the Council authorized the investment~of X20,000.00 in United States Government Bonds. ~~DEt-~D LINEf~ On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously passed, AUTO TAGS the Council fixed September 15, 1943 as the final date for fiscal obtaining town automobile licenses for the~year 1943-1944, to avoid penalty. ROTOGRAVURE Mr. N. C. Remson, represneting the Southwest Times, SECTION appeared before the Council, asking that space be given in APPROPRIA- TION. the special pictorial rotogravure section. On motion of J. E. Bunts, seconded by J. K. Harrison, and passed by a majority vote, the Council authorized ~n appropriation of X165.00 for one page, ASST. 0n the recommendation of the Mayor and finance TREhSURF,R~ s OFFICE. committee, and on motion of J. F. Bunts, seconded by F. A. S.eagle and unanimously passed, the Council authorized the employment of J. Lloyd Patterson to assist in the Treasurer's office, at a salary not to exceed X100.00 per month. SOUTHWEST In the matter of re-est~~blishing the South~r~~est CORP.LINE Corporate line, discussed at previous meetings of the Council, Roby K. SutYierland, town attorney, reported on the legal status, that the Council had the right to re-establish the line without recourse with the Legislature inso long as the corporate line was being restricted and the area reduced, and no area added. It was the consensus of the Council that the Southwest Corporate line be re-established. bu iness ADJOURN- There being no further the Council adjourned at M ENT 9.:00 P. M. AT EST Clerk of Council.
