Council mins. contd. g• , ~ In the absence of Councilman Nash, Chairman of the Street APPROVED REMOVAL OF SYCAMORE TREE SOUTH SIDE OF PROSPECT AVE. Committee, Councilman Flint stated it was the recommendation of that Committee that a sycamore tree located on the south. side of Prospect Avenue and ;~racti tally in tl~e drv~Y~*a~r of the J. ~?. Dobyns residence, be re7reved at t.ae expensf~ o.f T~'r. Dobyns. This motion was seconds-,d b;~• Counci:l~ran Gallimore, and carried unanimously. Town Manater T3oland advised Council that he had contacted officials of both of the furnitur~• ~ la.nts in the Town with regard to a complaint received at the last meeting that these plants ~frere burning refuse that give a:ff an offensive odor. N,~r. D;oland read a letter to Council from Mr. Joe Shumate, president of Colaman Furniture CompanYr. F?e further advised that he had talked with ti1r. C. E. Richardson o:C the Pulaski Veneer a.nd Furniture Corporation. Council FURIv'ITURE PLTS. Town °"anager iv'oland advised that he had met with the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors with regar~~'s to the Totian and County publ.ish- ing a joint annual financial report, and that the suggestion was TOT~dN TO 'uJORK °7ITH C(7I7~iTY warmly received by thC~ Board; and the County Clerk and County Treasurer OFFICIALS IN PREPARING had beer. ir.structnd to work with the Town on such a report, On motion JOIPeT FINAPJGIAL PwPORT OF of Councilman Cummings, and seconded by Councilman T~eCarthy, and carried PULASKI CO. & TOZti!N unanimously, it was, RESULU~D, that the Town work with the County TtiTith regards to the details of carrying out the plans fora joint annual report of the, two governing bodies. i~1r. Wilkerson, Resident Engineer for the State Highway Department, presented to Council copies of a revised map showing ADOPTIOIu` CF the proposed relocation of Route 611 (D;ewbern Road) as it ~~ril1 be RESOLUTION REL. The Town Attorney explained negotiations for right-of-way, and stated that probably at least 2,500 feet of right-of-way would be donated, and that Town would have to deed back some right-of-way donated along an old route to be superceeded by the revised route. Or. motion of Councilman Flint, seconded by Councilman Gallimore, and carried unanimously, the following resolution was adopted: WHEREAS, the Town of Pulaski, Virginia, did, by resolution adopt on the 20th day of December, 1960, authorize the Department of Highways of the Common- wealth o.f Virginia, to proceed frith a survey and plans for that portion of Route X611 which now lies within the RT 611 Town of Pulaski, Virginia; and, ~rdHEREAS, R. A. ~~ilknson, the Resident Engineer, for Pulaski, has presented to the sa.i.d Town a map showing the proposed revised location of Route /#611 as requested RESOLUTION by the said Town in so far as the location thereof affects certain property owned by the Claremont Corporation of Pulaski and James L. McMillan; and, WHEREAS it now appears that the proposed relocation is satisfactary to the aforesaid property owners and that they have indicated their willingness to give the right of way unto the Town for said Route #611 and to execute an option therefor; and, WHEREAS, it appears that the proposed relocation shown on the map presented to the said Town is in a suitable and proper location; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the said Council, meeting in regular session this 1st day of August, 1961, that the location of the said highway as it is now proposed on temporary plans as presented to the Council on the 1st day of August, 1961, be, and the same is hereby, approved, and the Highway Department is requested to proceed with this project. It is further RESOLVED that a certified copy of this resolution. be sent to the State Highway Department for its records, and that the proper officials of the Town take any and all steps necessary in the furtherance of this project. The Town Manager reported that a survey of downtown streets indicates that the block of Main Street between ~^Iashington and Madison Avenues has the most badly deteriorated pavement, and that a bid has STREET been received from the Adams Construction Company in the sum of CO1~~IITTEE TO ACT ON BID ~1,!a25.00 for placing 100 lbs, sq yd. of plant mix asphalt in FOR LAYIrdG ASPHALT TAX this 675 ft. long block, if the work can be done while the Adams ON P~_AIN `iT. On motion of Councilman Carrico, seconded by Councilman Aust, and carried unanimously, it was, RESOLVED, that the matter be turned over to the Street Committee with power to act. t~396 Council rains. contd. No action was taken by Council, except to FOR RAT EXTERMINA- TION PROGRAM TO request the Manager to determine policy of other towns in this INVESTIGATF~D regard. Council was of the opinion that upon the completion of Route 99, which is anticipated for early September, both OFFICIAL OPENING OF ROUTE 99 inside and outside the corporate limits, an official opening UPON?
