A RESOLUTION OF CONGRATULATIONS ON THE ]Srn ANNIVERSARY OF
VIRGINIA STATE PARKS AND CLAYTOR LAKE STATE PARK
WHEREAS, Clvytor Leke Stare Park is named efler Claytor Lake formed in 1939 witM1 the
completion of the Appalachian Power Company hydmclechic dam ov the New River; and
WHEREAS, Claytor Lake State Park was ivitivlly supPOrtcA by the local aammunity with
IvMraiscrs and peony drives; avd
WHEREAS, Claytor Lake State Park makes up 4'I2 acres wish the original 320 acres donavd
from Ne Appalachian Poww Company to spurecovomic development; avd
WHEREAS, V irgivia was the first slate m open six slate pads simnllaveuusly ov dove 15, 193G
with Claytor lake Slate Park being parknomber 13 end dedirzted on May 29, 1948; and
WHEREAS, Virginia's Slate Park's have been recogni.ed twtionally as the best managed park
systems in the cwvay; and
