HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-06Resolution 2013-06 A Resolution Designating a Day of Recognition and Remembrance for Cameron Taylor Fitzwater WHEREAS, the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia desires to honor and recognize Cameron Taylor Fitzwater for his many and unique contributions as a citizen of the Town of Pulaski and a student at Pulaski County High School; and, WHEREAS, Cameron was active in the life of the community, volunteering during the Tornado Event of April 8, 2011 moving falling trees out of the road. As a volunteer with Samaritan's Purse he continued with clearing roads of fallen timber, in addition to assisting with many house building projects in the valley; and, WHEREAS, Cameron was known and recognized for his many academic and athletic achievements as a student at Pulaski County High School including: attending the Southwest Virginia Governor's School; participating in the Math (Captain), Science, and All Around MACC Academic Teams; serving as a member of the PCHS Choir, PCHS Drama and Young Life. He also participated on the Wrestling Team (Captain) and the Track Team; and, WHEREAS, Cameron was also known for his great love of the outdoors including his favorite activities of kayaking, hiking, climbing and his participation as a Boy Scout in fulfilling all requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout; and WHEREAS, Cameron Taylor Fitzwater tragically was the victim of an auto accident on April 4, 2012; NOW, THEREFORE be it RESOLVED that the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia sitting in regular session this 16th day of July 2013 does hereby designate the first Saturday in April of each year as "Cameron Fitzwater Memorial Day" which will allow the Cameron Fitzwater Memorial Scholarship to hold fundraisers including "The Color Me Cameron 5K RunM/alk." This resolution is effective upon adoption and is hereby adopted this 16th day of July 2013 by the duly recorded vote of the Town Council of the Town of Pulaski, Virginia as follows: Heather L.
